FIRE SAFETY REMINDER
As temperatures drop, space heaters and heat lamps become more common in homes, garages, barns, and outbuildings. While these devices help keep us warm, it only takes seconds for a fire to start and potentially burn down an entire structure β or spread to your neighborβs property!
β οΈ SPACE HEATER SAFETY
β’ Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
β’ Place heaters on a flat, stable surface.
β’ Plug electric heaters directly into a wall outlet β never an extension cord or power strip.
β’ Turn heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.
β’ Never leave a heater unattended.
π HEAT LAMP SAFETY
β’ Secure heat lamps so they cannot fall or tip over.
β’ Keep them away from hay, straw, bedding, wood shavings, and other flammable materials.
β’ Inspect cords, plugs, and fixtures regularly for damage.
β’ Make sure animals cannot knock lamps into combustible materials.
β’ Use equipment designed for the environment where it will operate.
π¨ DONβT TAKE THE RISK!
A heat lamp that falls into dry bedding or a space heater placed too close to combustible materials can ignite a fire that spreads rapidly. Before you know it, a small fire can become a fully involved structure fire, threatening your home, your livestock, your family, and even your neighborβs property.
Your fire doesnβt have to stop at your property line. Protect your home and your neighbors by using heating equipment responsibly.
β
Keep combustibles away from heat sources.
β
Test your smoke alarms.
β
Keep a fire extinguisher accessible.
β
If a fire starts, get out, stay out, and call 911.
