We are incredibly grateful to Alpha Delta Kappa for their generous monetary donation supporting our Motheread Fatheread literacy program. Their contribution helps ensure that participating families receive a high-quality, engaging experience as they strengthen literacy skills and build meaningful connections through reading together.

Partnerships like this make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families throughout our community.

In 2019, we partnered with the South Carolina Cancer Alliance, Tre Gammage of Gammage Enterprize, and men in our communities to bring awareness to Men's Health. Listen to our very own Executive Director, Darnell Byrd McPherson, as she shared why Men's Health means so much to us: https://on.soundcloud.com/18L377fmDZxyE8UPn1

💙 June is Men's Health Month! 💙

Darlington County First Steps recognizes the important role fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and father figures play in the lives of children and families.

This month, we encourage men to prioritize their health by scheduling annual checkups, staying active, managing stress, and making time for self-care.

When men are healthy, families are stronger, children thrive, and communities flourish.

"In the Parents as Teachers model, home visiting is a structured, evidence‑based approach in which trained professionals meet families in their homes or preferred settings to guide parenting, monitor child development, and connect families to resources, all aimed at promoting optimal early childhood outcomes."

Motheread/Fatheread in action! 📚✨

Families explored The Three Billy Goats Gruff, sparking meaningful conversations about overcoming financial challenges and the importance of community resources.

We also reflected on childhood memories through In My Family—sharing stories of traditions, family moments, and what makes each family unique. ❤️

From building popsicle stick bridges to creating paper art, learning was hands-on and fun! Parents left with books and crafts to continue the experience at home with their children.

Motheread/Fatheread is a special program that brings families together through literacy, connection, and growth. 💫
