I apologize that I was away from the office last week for a pressing family issue. Unfortunately, I was not here to do this post before installation of the Axon Outpost Cameras. I am attaching a video that was done by the Mayor of Denver, Colorado that talks about the cameras. I also have PDF file that describes the cameras and what they actually do and how the data from the cameras is controlled by our department and not the vendor. The documents are lengthy but am willing to share. I know some people are going to be skeptical and not believe the information. I can't help those people but if anyone that lives in the community want to come in and talk about it, I am more than willing to talk to you and send you the other information we have. Bottom line is these are not speed cameras, they are ALPR cameras. Right now, they hold data for 30 days that only our department has access to. The data can be searched for a legal law enforcement need to investigate a crime or public safety concerns. They do not take pictures of the driver of a vehicle. It takes a picture of the plate and rear end of the vehicle. The system will send an alert to on duty officers if the plate has an NCIS record (stolen vehicle, missing or endangered person, silver alerts and if an arrest warrant was issued for the person registered to that vehicle.) The officer must then verify the plate was read correctly and verify the alert is still active before acting on the alert. The officers do not currently have access to search the data (only the Sgt, Lt and Chief). Officers will be trained on the system, policies and approved procedures before being given access to search features. No other agency (Local, State or Federal) has access to the data. We will cooperate with other agencies for their investigations, but it will have to be approved by a supervisor and meet our requirements to complete a search. Hopefully this will help with the rumors floating around on social media and clear somethings up. If I can find a way to effectively share the PDF documents on the Hartville Police Department page, I will.

SCHOOL STARTS BACK August 18th: School zones will be strictly enforced. Help protect our children and pay extra special attention.
High/Middle School 6:45 AM to 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Elementary School 8:10 AM to 9:10 AM and 3:15 PM to 3:50 PM

Rules for schools Bus Stops:
In the state of Ohio, you must stop when driving from either direction (does not apply to multiple-lane or divided highways) until the children are safely off the street and the school bus lights stop flashing. The yellow flashing lights signal you to slow down and prepare to make a complete stop. When the red-light flashes, your vehicle must be fully stopped, even if the "stop sign" arm is not extended on the side of the bus.

You must stop in both directions on a two-lane road

On a road with fewer than four lanes, all traffic approaching a stopped school bus from either direction must stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus and remain stopped until the bus begins to move or the bus driver signals motorists to proceed. According to Ohio traffic laws, motorists can receive up to a $500 fine and possible suspended license for up to a year for failure to stop. If the bus is stopped on a street with four or more lanes, only traffic proceeding in the same direction as the bus must stop.
