At last night’s Harvard City Council Meeting, five members of the Harvard Police Department were recognized with an Award of Commendation for their outstanding work and dedication to the community.

Sergeant Eric See, Detective Todd Oczus, Officer Anthony Vialpando, Officer Cesar Salas, and Officer Aaron Palmer were recognized for their involvement in an incident at Milky Way Park on Friday, September 4.

At approximately 10:03 p.m., Officer Vialpando was conducting a routine park check when he observed a vehicle parked after hours. During the subsequent investigation, Officer Vialpando, with assistance from Officer Salas, Officer Palmer, and Sergeant See, identified circumstances involving an adult male and a juvenile female that ultimately led to the arrest of the male subject.

The subject was arrested and transported to the McHenry County Jail on felony charges of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and Traveling to Meet a Minor.

The actions of these officers demonstrated the diligence, professionalism, investigative skills, and steadfast commitment that the Harvard Police Department prides itself on. Their willingness to work together and their dedication to protecting the community reflect the Department’s mission and the City of Harvard’s motto:

“Winning with Teamwork.”

The Harvard Police Department congratulates Sergeant See, Detective Oczus, Officer Vialpando, Officer Salas, and Officer Palmer on this well-deserved recognition and thanks them for their continued service to the Harvard community.

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from the Harvard Police Department! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of the people who make our community what it is.

Here in Harvard, that means so many people who work behind the scenes—and in front of us every day—to keep our community moving.

To our friends at Mercy Harvard Hospital, the Harvard Fire Protection District, our local restaurants and small businesses, the employees at Harvard Walmart and Casey’s, our City of Harvard employees, public works crews, teachers and school staff, farmers, manufacturers, contractors, and the countless other businesses and organizations that employ and serve our community—thank you!

And to all of the people who are working today while others are enjoying a day off, we see you and appreciate you. Whether you’re answering a 911 call, caring for a patient, serving a meal, stocking a shelf, pumping gas, working a shift, keeping our streets safe, or simply making sure Harvard continues to run—your work matters.

Labor Day is about more than a long weekend. It’s about recognizing the people whose time, effort, and dedication help make our community a great place to live.

From all of us at the Harvard Police Department, thank you for everything you do for Harvard.

Have a safe, enjoyable Labor Day—and to our local workers, we appreciate you!

🚸 SCHOOL CROSSING SAFETY REMINDER 🚸

If you travel through the intersection of Division Street (Route 14) & Harrison Street in the morning or afternoon, you may notice a Harvard Police Officer or two posted at the school crossing.

There’s a reason for our presence — our kids! ❤️💙

We’ve received complaints of vehicles speeding through the school zone, disobeying our crossing guard, and ignoring posted traffic signs, including the “DO NOT TURN ONTO E. HARRISON FROM SOUTHBOUND DIVISION” sign.

We’re going to be spending some extra time in the area to help make sure our school-age kids can safely cross Division Street on their way to and from school.

Please slow down, pay attention, follow the signs, and most importantly — listen to our crossing guard. A few extra seconds of patience can make a huge difference in keeping a child safe.

And while we’re talking about crossing guards…

⭐ A HUGE A+ goes to Virgil! ⭐

Virgil does an outstanding job every single day helping our kids safely navigate this crossing. We appreciate his dedication, patience, and commitment to keeping our youngest community members safe. 👏👏👏

Let’s all do our part. Slow down. Follow the rules. Watch for kids.

🚔 Their safety is our priority.
