Members of our Community Outreach team recently had the pleasure of visiting Ms. Mary Muniz, who celebrated her 107th birthday on July 20! To honor this incredible milestone, our team presented her with a special Centenarian Blanket. 💙

Born on July 20, 1919, in Streator, Illinois, Ms. Muniz moved to New Orleans in 1924. She grew up in the Irish Channel, where her father owned a corner grocery store, and later worked in the cosmetics department at Woolworth’s, where she was voted “Most Popular!” After Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Jefferson Parish.

Ms. Muniz is one of seven children and has a daughter and grandson. She enjoys singing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and keeping up with her weekly Tuesday hair appointments! She’s also a big Saints fan and confidently predicts they’ll win 16 games this season! ⚜️

One of her favorite memories is celebrating the Saints’ Super Bowl victory by going into the street and banging pots and pans, just as she did when World War II ended!

When asked about her secret to living such a long life, Ms. Muniz emphasized the importance of family, being grateful, staying active, and giving love to others. And at 107, she still has a great sense of humor, telling us, “I’m still kicking, but not as high!”

Our Community Outreach team was honored to spend time with Ms. Muniz and hear some of the memories she’s collected over 107 years.

Please join us in wishing Ms. Mary Muniz continued happiness and good health! 💙🎂

JPSO Community Outreach recently learned about another Jefferson Parish centenarian, Lillie Mullens, and couldn’t let this incredible milestone pass without celebrating her by delivering a Centenarian Blanket!

Lillie Mullens was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1925, in Waterproof, Louisiana, near Natchez, Mississippi. She is one of 14 siblings! Mrs. Mullens married her late husband, Wilbert Mullens, in 1962 and has built quite the family with 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren!

She is currently a member of St. Mary Baptist Church in Marrero, her favorite foods are catfish and gumbo, and she’s also a Saints fan! ⚜️

When asked her secret to a long life, her answer was simple: praying, trusting in the Lord and treating everyone nicely.

Our Community Outreach was happy to spend some time with Mrs. Mullens and help celebrate a century of life and memories.

Please join us in wishing Mrs. Lillie Mullens a very happy 100th (and soon-to-be 101st) birthday! 💙🎂
