Last week, our A-Shift crew had the opportunity to visit New Creations Preschool for a show-and-tell focused on fire safety. Crews talked with the students about fire prevention and demonstrated some of the tools and equipment our firefighters use every day.

The following day, that same crew responded to a grass fire on Country Ln. that quickly spread across three properties and threatened several structures. Crews rapidly stopped the fire’s advancement and protected the surrounding structures, ultimately extinguishing the fire with assistance from Fort Worth Fire Department Brush-37. Crews remained on scene to mop up hot spots.

The fire was determined to have been caused by an illegal burn—a reminder that even a small fire can quickly become a serious threat when conditions are right.

Please join HFR as we send our thoughts and prayers to this Roanoke Police Officer, their family, and the organization.

In the early morning hours of September 20, 2026, an officer with the Roanoke Police Department was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision.

Officers were conducting traffic enforcement along SH 114 in response to numerous complaints involving motorcycles traveling at high speeds in the area while attending an event at Texas Motor Speedway.

The officer, who was operating a police motorcycle, attempted to stop a motorcycle when the rider fled from the officer. During the incident, both the officer and the fleeing motorcyclist were involved in a collision with another vehicle on SH 114, just west of I-35W.

The officer was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.

The suspect is in custody and is also being treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

At this time, we do not have any additional information regarding the collision or the officer’s condition. We ask that you keep our officer, his family, and the entire Roanoke Police Department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

HFR crews have remained busy over the past week as elevated fire danger continues across the area. Our personnel have responded to numerous large grass fires throughout our district while also assisting neighboring agencies, including a strike team assignment to Bridgeport yesterday.

In addition to the demands of these incidents, extreme temperatures have placed an added strain on our personnel working in the field. We encourage everyone to use extreme caution and remain vigilant. If you see any signs of a fire, call 911 immediately.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the City of Rhome, Texas Government for their generosity in loaning us a brush truck while we addressed mechanical issues with one of our units. Partnerships like these help ensure we can continue providing the highest level of service to our community.
