If you have burned any tree or brush pile in the last couple weeks, please be checking them today! They can and will rekindle weeks later.

Also, farmers, if you have not already hooked up a tractor to a disk we would love it if you could. As we all have learned from the past, tractors and disks are a tremendous help in the event of a fire, especially on days like today! Thank you!

Our deepest condolences go out to the Hansen family on the loss of Shawn Hansen.
Shawn was a valued member of our department for 32 years, dedicating much of his life to serving others and his community. During his time with the department, Shawn served as a member of Emergency Management for Adams County and proudly served as Chief of the Ayr Station for many years.

Those who had the privilege of truly knowing Shawn would describe him as incredibly knowledgeable, kindhearted, dependable, and always willing to help. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. Above all, Shawn was simply a firefighter’s firefighter—someone who exemplified the heart, dedication, and brotherhood that define the fire service.

Rest easy, Brother. We’ll take it from here.

Following the Stair Climb and Community Walk, join us at the Hastings Museum for a free showing of "9/11: Stories in Fragments" in the Lied Super Screen Theatre.

This historical documentary explores the September 11 attacks through personal, everyday objects donated to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. These objects help tell the stories of the people who experienced that day and offer a personal perspective on this pivotal moment in history.

The film begins at 8:00 pm and is free to attend.

End the evening together with an opportunity to reflect, remember, and hear the stories behind the objects that help us understand September 11, 2001.

🍿 Concessions will be available for purchase, including popcorn, Pepsi products, a variety of candy, and Kool-Aid soda.

On Friday, September 11, you are invited to come together for a Stair Climb and Community Walk honoring the lives lost and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

Registration begins at 5:30 pm, with food trucks and an emergency vehicle apparatus display in the parking lot behind the Hastings Museum. Each participant will receive an ID badge representing a fallen firefighter to carry throughout the event as a personal tribute to that individual.

At 6:15 pm, participants can choose how they want to take part:

🪜 Stair Climb: Climb 110 stories, representing the height of the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Firefighters are welcome to complete the climb in SCBA and bunker gear.

🚶 Community Walk: Follow the route outside around Highland Park for 69 minutes, representing the time between the collapse of the South and North Towers.

Every step is a way to remember and honor those whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001.

We had a good time at the First Annual Great Yellow Takeover. Unfortunately the rain complicated things a little, but we met some cool people with some cool rides. We look forward to what next year brings!
