Maple Valley freshman Raegan Jones cut more than 94 seconds from her previous personal record to earn the 19th-place medal in the Division 3/4 girls' race Saturday at the 25th Annual Otsego Bulldog Invitational. Jones hit the finish line in 22 minutes 11.5 seconds as her eam's lone competitor in the event.

There was nearly a full team of Lions in the boys' race, and all six guys ran their fastest race of the season with four of the six turning in new personal records. Senior Tyler Cutis led the way with a 52nd-place time of 19:03.7.

The two Lion seniors, Curtis and Cameron Murray, set new season best marks while junior Grady Wilkes, sophomore Sawyer Wawiernia, sophomore Cooper Joseph and freshman Justice Deboer each had his fastest race ever.

Maple Valley runners got to experience the South Christian Under the Lights Invitational for the first time Friday, Aug. 28, - and it was a good experience.

Lion sophomore Melanie Jones was a little less than 20 seconds off her personal record time and earned a medal for her 35th-place finish running in a field of 31 teams in the Midnight Division. Teammates Adelita Tobias, Raegan Jones, Lydia Emerick and Karlee Davis all ran their fastest varsity race yet.

The Maple Valley boys, who took off from the starting line at 11:45 p.m. Friday in one of the final races of the event, were led by senior Tyler Curtis who placed 90th overall. Teammates Grady Wilkes and Cooper Joseph both ran their fastest race yet, and Cameron Murray and Quincy Page had some good pace to their race as well.

Saranac stymied the Maple Valley offense in the second half, moved the football and maybe most importantly for the RedHawks held onto it a little better.

The Lion varsity football team built a 14-0 lead on the back of takeaways and precision punting in the first half, but Saranac rallied for a 15-14 win in Maple Valley's home opener – getting a touchdown and a two-point conversion with 1:35 to play in the game to take the lead.

Maple Valley is now 0-2 overall this season. The Lions return to Big 8 Conference action Sept. 11 playing host to conference newcomer East Jackson …

Maple Valley junior guard Cam Murray dropped to his knees and leaned forward and slapped his two hands on the hardwood. He squatted there where he took his shot, about seven feet behind the three-point line, for just a moment as he collected himself.

It didn't go in.

The Lions inbounded the ball with seven seconds left and the length of the court to go at the end of their MHSAA Division 3 District Semifinal against the host Panthers at Delton Kellogg High School Wednesday. Junior guard Teegen McDonald has space to push the ball forward. When the two guys at the top of the Delton zone collapsed on him, he kicked a pass to his left to Murray who fired up a long three that thunked off the back of the rim and down as time ran out.

Delton Kellogg scored a 54-52 win over the visiting Lions, earning the chance to face fifth-ranked Pewamo-Westphalia in the district final back at DKHS Friday night, Feb. 27.

Delton Kellogg got the go-ahead bucket with about 30 seconds to play, spreading the floor and patiently waiting for an opening which seniors guard Keegan Hill found. He attacked the basket and dished off to senior forward Gabe Ramsey who pump faked and then dropped in the go-ahead lay-up - breaking a 52-52 tie.

McDonald had a game-high 31 points in the loss. Senior guard Tyler Howland had 24 points for Delton Kellogg …

The Lions were able to hang with Stockbridge despite a flurry of turnovers in the first quarter, while the Panthers were missing nine straight 3-point attempts.

Once the Panthers found their shooting stroke though, they pulled away from the Lions for a 61-36 victory at Maple Valley High School Tuesday in Big 8 Conference action.

Stockbridge scored its 11th win of the season Tuesday, and is now 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the Big 8 after falling Friday against league-leading Springport.

Stockbridge was one of three 6-1 teams in the Big 8 after Tuesday's action, and the Panthers should be troublesome for some time. They came to Valley with six freshmen on the varsity roster including Crow, Evan Lockhart who had 11 points, Christie who had nine points and Bradley Buddenborg who had eight. Another freshman, center Tucker Lott, came off the bench to score six points.

Maple Valley won't have to worry about those guys maturing too much. The Panthers are set to leave the Big 8 Conference for the Cascades Conference at the start of the 2027-28 school year.

Sophomore Dylan Steele led the Lions with 15 points and junior guard Teegen McDonald finished with ten. They were the only Maple Valley guys with more than three points.

The Lions are now 5-8 overall this season and 2-6 in conference play. They were bested by visiting Union City in a Conference ballgame Friday night …

Quincy junior guard Kendyl Musielewicz hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter, the Lions had a tough time with the Orioles’ press, and Quincy rolled to a 42-14 win at Maple Valley High School Friday.

Musielewicz missed her next eight three-point tries, and the Lion varsity girls’ basketball team did get a little better against the Quincy pressure in the second half.

It was the third straight win for the Quincy girls who are now 3-1 in Big 8 Conference play and 3-3 overall. The Lions fall to 1-4 overall with the loss and 0-4 in the Big 8.

Musielewicz closed the night with a game-high 22 points, and kept getting good looks a three as the game went on despite not cashing in. Sophomore Kora Timmons chipped in seven points.

It was a first half where the Lions struggled to get shots up on the offensive end. They had just four points at the half. Freshman forward Brynlee Joseph led the Lions for the game with four points. Freshman guard Melanie Jones had three points and sophomores Lydia Emerick and Abbigail Harvey had two points apiece.
