Public Safety Is an Economic Development Issue

Mississippi cannot recruit the next major employer without safe communities and courts that work. Professional Surety Bail delivers that accountability at no cost to taxpayers.

By Michael D. Morrison

Economic development begins long before a corporation announces that it is opening a new facility in Mississippi. Corporate executives and site-selection teams evaluate the communities where their employees will live, raise families, attend schools, shop, and build their futures. They consider the quality of education, the condition of neighborhoods, infrastructure, and recreational opportunities.

Crucially, they also evaluate public safety and the stability of the legal environment. A community with a backlogged, unreliable, or costly judicial system creates uncertainty. Conversely, a justice system that works efficiently, where court appearances are guaranteed, cases move predictably, victims get timely resolution, and legal mandates are enforced, builds confidence for residents and incoming businesses alike.

BAIL BOND SCAM ALERT: FORREST AND LAMAR COUNTIES, Mississippi.

We are receiving reports of individuals being contacted by telephone and text message claiming they missed a required felony bail bond check-in or court appearance and must pay a fine to avoid arrest. One telephone number being used in these suspected scam attempts is 470-672-4772. The callers appear to have personal information about criminal cases, claim to represent the court, and demand payment by credit card, debit card, or Apple Pay. When asked to arrange payment in person, the caller refuses and insists the matter must be resolved over the telephone.

If you are released on a professional surety bail bond in Forrest County or Lamar County, contact your bail agent directly using the telephone number provided at the time of your release. Your bail agent is your primary contact regarding your bond obligations. Never provide payment information to an unsolicited caller, and independently verify any alleged court fine with the appropriate court. Do not become a victim of a bail bond scam.

Mississippi law does not require certified mail for a demand letter on an open account. Under § 11-53-81, a process server can personally deliver the written demand and itemized statement, documenting delivery for your records. If the debtor fails to pay within 30 days after receipt and the creditor wins a judgment, the court can award reasonable attorney’s fees. Mike Morrison Process Serving offers fast turnaround for demand-letter delivery. Call 601-582-5001. Credit cards accepted.
