Traditionally, meals are where everyone gets to come together. In emergency services, this has always been a place to bond, decompress, retell stories from years prior and spend time with our family away from family. Today, Haven Baptist Church invites your local crews out to have a meal. Not often do we get to have inter agency dinners. As many know, our great little town and agencies take great pride in our relationships we have with eachother. No matter if it’s EMS, Fire or Law enforcement, we count on eachother day in and day out. We just want to say thank you for the invitation and for the opportunity to spend the evening with you all and having that traditional time together for bonding, laughter and conversation.

Tonight, Kansas mourns together. In the wake of the tragedy that hit Wichita, our thoughts and prayers are with all involved. From the folks in the stands to our first responder family and dispatchers, none of you are alone in this. Please lean on the resources to help you through this and remember that you’re not alone.

As first responders these are the calls that we prepare for. The calls that we train our hardest to stand ready to respond to. The calls that every one of us pray will never come. For those that did respond, you did your jobs well in an absolute nightmare of a situation.

Tonight, there is no county lines, no division between agencies, no separation between all of us in uniform and our communities. We stand as one to support everyone dealing with this tragedy. We see you, we hear you.

0746 local time, 25 years ago, the north tower was hit. This is signaled by 3 horn blasts by departments all over the country. At 0928 the north tower came down, this will be signaled the same way all over the United States.

At this moment 25 years ago, thousands of people were preparing for work, clocking in, crossing the bridge to their office, boarding their flights across the country saying goodbye to loved ones and clocking out from their shifts at the fire station, police department or EMS station. Nobody could have imagined what would come in the following hours that not only changed their lives but our nation and the world as a whole.

On this day, 25 years and the days to follow, we lost countless lives of Americans and others who were directly impacted by the tragic events that unfolded.

We will never forget.

Fire and EMS personnel often find it difficult to locate an address that has improperly posted address house numbers. Here is information that you can use to help us locate your home or business in the event of an emergency.

Saturdays thought of the day, who is it that’s the most forgotten in the emergency field? Who is it that is the first to offer aid in your time of need?
You see the ambulance. You see the tech.
You see the firetruck. You see the firefighter
You see the police car. You see the cop.

So who is the person who’s forgotten way to often?

I’m talking about our dispatchers. The voice on the phone, the ones who get the help to you in your time of need.
What a lot don’t realize is the extent of what they do. They might be couching someone through doing CPR or stopping life threatening bleeding and at the same time helping to walk someone through labor pains and having to answer a call for someone who had a hang nail and needs a bandaid( yes this actually happens).

Our voice in the box, our guardian angels, the voices first responders everywhere love and hate, we get annoyed with them and are incredibly thankful for them. They are the people we can trust are there when our community need them, and when we need them. They do so much more than just answering phones, it’s getting advanced information so they can send us to the proper location, with the proper resources, they help save lives by walking people through life saving skills, at the same time they are guiding crews in, keeping time logs, and monitoring multiple radios, units and phones. The biggest thing that is forgetting is that us in the field may see some things that might stick with us after the call. We are there able to attempt to help. Our incredible team at dispatch, they hear it all, they are miles away and can only talk through it and send help.

From us at Haven, to all our dispatchers, telecommunications, county 911 operators, what ever the chosen title, we see you, we thank you, and we stand with you. Your job is critical and you’re doing the hard work to help us do our job. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to do our job. This is one family and we won’t forget you are a part of that. THANK YOU!!

Thought of the day for this fine Tuesday, here at Haven EMS, we are beyond blessed to have the ability to work side by side with some incredible folks that make it possible for us to do our jobs and help us help our community that much more. Today I want to say thank you to all of those people, you made the choice to do these jobs and help our community and a lot of you don’t even get paid to do so. We see you and appreciate you. On scene we may not always get to say how much we appreciate you showing up or your help but it is always valued. So, thank you to our incredible partners.
