We would like to thank Ozarka and Tony Shamburger with Shamburger Overhead Doors for the pallet water that was donated. This contribution may appear to be something simple, but plays a vital role behind the fire lines of keeping personnel hydrated!

The Crow Fire off of FM 778 was all over the news. Our Brush 3, with Assistant Chief Cody Thompson and Lt. Bucky Elkins, was first on scene and started fire suppression. However, with a fire this large, it’s never one agency or fire department but a team effort from many.
We are thankful to those who were able to assist us. Mineola (2 trucks, 1 dozer), Hainesville (3 trucks), Holly Lake (2 trucks), and Texas Forestry (4 dozers, 2 planes and a helicopter), plus several other Hawkins firefighters, all contributing their time, hard work and sweat to put out this fire. Longview provided a strike team and Christus EMS was on scene providing assistance. Wood County Constable John McQueen was also instrumental from the start.
With no rain, please be aware of the things that can spark a fire during these hot, dry and windy days. Protect your families, property, communities and firefighters during these dangerous conditions.

These beautiful cookies were made to order by Christy McQueen for the 50th birthday of Pleasant Grove Fire Chief Scott Mischnick. She did a fabulous job, and they received so many compliments. Her designs and so delicious.

As firefighters, we experience many difficult situations, but some of the hardest are the ones that involve one of our own.
Zachary and Jessica Colette experienced the unimaginable loss of their precious baby boy, Zayden. The past eight months have been filled with both incredible pain and precious moments of joy as they loved and cared for Zayden. As part of their fire family, we were honored to walk alongside them and share in their journey.
One of the hardest things any of us can face is saying goodbye-especially when that goodbye is to a child. We were deeply honored when Zachary and Jessica asked us to participate in Zayden's final journey from the funeral home to the cemetery.
Engine 1 carried Zayden, with Captain John Pack serving as the driver. Ten additional firefighters, including Chief Ty Musick, riding in other apparatuses, joined the es**rt as we accompanied Zayden to his final resting place.
It was a solemn honor and a privilege we will never forget. While there are no words that can ease the pain of losing a child, we hope Zachary and Jessica know that they do not have to walk through this journey alone. We will be with them always.
Rest peacefully, Zayden. You were loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten.

Meet the newest member of the Hawkins Volunteer Fire Dept. Aiden Urquhart graduated from Hawkins this year and is an EMT. He has jumped into training with both feet and is definitely an asset to the department.

We are always appreciative when the community gives us love. This was a beautiful, fully stuffed basket of goodies donated by the Gilmer Apostolic Church; however, after our Monday meeting, it was being devoured by the members. This was all that was left and it’s still a lot.
