Last night, Squad 3 and Engine 4 conducted a live burn training at the HFD Training Center. Companyโ€™s worked on air management and Thermal Imaging Camera use under simulated fire conditions in the departments basement fire simulator. Alongside that our newer members were able to work on search operations in the smoke house. Great job by both companyโ€™s and thank you to Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance for standing by for the duration of the drill.

Unfortunately another weekend of rain seems to be coming. As a coastal norโ€™easter will bring rain and high winds to our area for most of the weekend. The following are some reminders and tips to help you throughout the weekend. With high winds predicted please secure any loose items on your property. Should flooding occur do not attempt to walk or drive through the water especially when barricades are in place. Make sure all essential electronics are charged in case of a power outage. If you should lose power please notify PSEG by phone or on their app. Only call PD if there is an emergency. Our emergency services are always prepared to respond to incidents as they arise so donโ€™t hesitate to call if you need us.

25 years has passed since the world as we knew it changed as tragedy struck. We will never forget the events of that day and always remember the courage and sacrifices of those 343 firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 PAPD officers who ran in but never came back out, as well as the innocent people who simply went to work or got onto their flight but never returned home. The Borough will hold the annual remembrance service tonight at 6:30pm at the 9/11 Memorial at 970 Goffle Rd.

This morning at 7:23am the Hawthorne Fire Department was dispatched to the Hawthorne Tire Center at 136 Goffle Rd for a possible fire. Chief 50 arrived and reported a working fire in a 2.5 story residential over commercial auto body shop. As companies arrived they were met with heavy black smoke showing from the auto body shop. Crews from Squad 3, Engine 4, and Truck 2 attempted an interior attack but were shortly pushed out by heavy fire conditions while Engine 1 and Rescue 5 began searches of the apartments above. As fire rapidly spread throughout the building additional alarms were called to assist in extinguishing the fire. Companies worked until after 12pm to fully extinguish the fire and assistance with clean up of the fluids that had spilled into the street from the shop. We thank our mutual aid from Glen Rock, North Haledon, Fair Lawn, Haledon, Prospect Park, Ridgewood, Paterson, Wyckoff, Midland Park, Paramus, and Hackensack for their assistance on scene. Thanks to Clifton, Franklin Lakes, Wayne, and Waldwick for covering the Borough. Thank you to our PD, Ladies Auxiliary, Hawthorne EMS, County Rehab Canteen, Passaic County Sheriffs Hazmat and EMS, and Passaic and Bergen County fire coordinators for their assistance.
