❄️ Shovel Smart, Stay Safe! ❄️
The snow is beautiful, but it can be a heavy burden—literally. As the snow continues to pile up your friends at STVFD want to make sure the only thing you’re catching this winter is a snowflake, not a trip to the ER.
Before you head out to tackle the driveway, remember these Pro-Tips:
❤️ Protect Your Heart
Cold air constricts blood vessels, and heavy lifting increases your heart rate. This is a dangerous combination.
Take frequent breaks. * Drink plenty of water. * If you feel any chest pain, nausea, or sudden exhaustion, head inside and call 911 immediately.
🪏 Practice Proper Technique
Push, don't throw: It’s much easier on your back to slide the snow to the edge of the driveway than to lift and toss it.
Small loads only: If the snow is wet and heavy, take smaller scoops.
Legs, not back: If you must lift, bend your knees and keep your back straight.
🧤🧣Dress in Layers
Wear moisture-wicking layers to stay dry and a hat to retain body heat. Don’t forget boots with good traction to avoid slips and falls.
🔥Be a "Hydrant Hero" 🦸‍♂️
When shoveling your sidewalk/driveway, please take an extra two minutes to clear a 3-foot path around any fire hydrant near your home. If we need to find that water source in a fire, those two minutes you spent today could save a life tomorrow.
🤝 The Buddy System
If you have neighbors who are elderly, disabled, or have heart conditions, please consider clearing their walk for them. It’s a great workout and an even better way to support our community!
Stay safe and stay warm! 🚒❄️
