Emergency Overnight Outage for Hayden area, September 9th

On August 29th, we had an outage that impacted the Hayden area, and as a result of this outage, we need to have an emergency overnight outage to repair and replace damaged equipment. This outage will begin at 11:59 pm on September 9th and will last until 5:00 am on September 10th.

We have sent email, phone, and text notifications to members who are impacted by this outage.

We strongly encourage all members to take appropriate steps to prepare for the outage. In particular, if you or someone in your household relies on electrically powered medical equipment, it is critical to make alternative arrangements in advance. Please ensure that backup power sources are available or that you have access to facilities with electricity during the outage. If you need assistance identifying local resources or have questions about medical needs, please contact us as soon as possible.

Additional preparation tips:
• Fully charge mobile phones and backup batteries.
• Have flashlights and fresh batteries on hand.
• Avoid opening refrigerators and freezers to keep food cold.
• Unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from power surges when service is restored.

If there are any tenants and/or lessees on the property, please inform them of our plans. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 970-879-1160. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make these necessary repairs.

August 30, 13:00 Update:
There are two separate fires, both less than 5 acres, adjacent to each other. One fire is named the Mill Creek 4 Fire and the other is the 8-80 Fire. Both are staffed and suppression efforts are taking place.

Mill Creek 4 Fire Update

The Mill Creek 4 Fire started yesterday afternoon just south of the forest boundary north of the West Routt Fire Protection District. The fire is burning in thick pine timber.

Although the fire is outside our district boundaries, West Routt Fire personnel remain involved and are currently managing the incident in coordination with other agencies on scene.

Crews worked to find access to the fire yesterday until lightning and rain made conditions unsafe and operations were ended early for firefighter safety. The fire is in a remote area with limited and difficult access. Crews are continuing to assess and manage the incident today.

West Routt Fire continues to maintain adequate staffing and emergency response coverage within our district while personnel are assigned to the fire. Our ability to respond to emergencies in our community remains in place.

We’ll share additional updates as information becomes available.

A quick reminder: If you see a new fire or have an emergency, please call 911 rather than the fire station directly. Calling 911 gets the information to dispatch and responding crews as quickly as possible.

🇺🇸 The Hayden Police Department is as patriotic as the next person (maybe more). We recognize that this year marks our nation’s 250th anniversary, and we understand that fireworks have long been part of many Independence Day celebrations.

But the Yampa Valley is currently facing exceptional drought conditions. In these conditions, one firework, sparkler, or other incendiary device can quickly become a fire that threatens homes, property, our community, and the firefighters who respond.

This is not about spoiling anyone’s fun. It is about protecting the safety and welfare of our residents, visitors, neighbors, and first responders.

**All fireworks are prohibited within the Town of Hayden.** This includes consumer fireworks, sparklers, firecrackers, rockets, aerial fireworks, and any other explosive or incendiary device.

Hayden Police Department officers will actively patrol for violations and strictly enforce the ordinance. **Violations will result in a mandatory court summons, and all fireworks will be seized.**

Please celebrate responsibly, and help us keep Hayden and the Yampa Valley safe this holiday.
