Traffic Update until Saturday October 17th

Please be aware that traffic will be stopped periodically throughout the days ahead. This is to allow crossing of race vehicles, trolleys, and pedestrian traffic. Crossing is allowed ONLY while traffic is stopped.

Beginning today and running through Saturday evening, drivers should be alert for increased traffic on KY 80/Hal Rogers Parkway near the traffic signal at East Perry Elementary as the "King of the Hammers' Ultra4 off-road race takes place. Law enforcement will be present to assist with traffic control and to provide visibility to warn drivers to slow down, be observant, and use caution. In addition, KY 80 will be closed for approximately 15 minutes around 6 p.m. Saturday to allow spectators to safely cross the street following the conclusion of the race to reach their vehicles.

🚧 MAIN STREET CLOSURE & EVENT NOTICE 🚧
Main Street will close tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, at 4:30 PM, from First Baptist Church to Gorman Bridge as we prepare for the Ultra4 Nationals Welcome Party and Fawl Crawl. While Main Street will be closed, Cooksey Street will be reversed to provide additional parking and maintain an alternate access route around the event area.
The Fawl Crawl, hosted by Red Mirror Events, LLC, will feature 35–40 decorated Broncos with trunks full of free candy for kids.

Please move any vehicles parked along this section of Main Street before 4:30 PM.

Congratulations to Sergeant Michael Ritchie on his graduation of The Academy of Police Supervision Class 109. Law enforcement supervisors learn how to positively influence groups of people, as well as how to apply situational leadership, demonstrate an understanding of constitutional and administrative law, emotional and social intelligence, ethical decision-making, problem-solving, emotional survival and public speaking. Congratulations Sgt. Ritchie!

Recently, LT. Tyler Day successfully completed the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate requirements, becoming a certified remote pilot under FAA regulations. This certification allows our department the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) as a valuable public-safety resource. Congratulations to LT. Day on his certification!

Last week, officers responded to an active physical domestic. Before officers could arrive on scene, the suspect fled the area on foot. As you can see in the video, Officers were able to locate the suspect using our UAS. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

Technology continues to play an important role in modern law enforcement, and we are committed to providing our officers with the training and resources necessary, to better protect and serve the citizens of Hazard.
