Farm-to-Market roads are how our food and fiber get from Texas farms to our homes and stores.

It’s a road system that was developed to help “get Texas farmers out of the mud.”

That was the campaign slogan in the fifties, to gain support for farm-to-market roads that connect Texas farms directly to highways and other cities.

Decades ago, those roads were built to do what their name implies—bring goods from the farm to market. And they still do that today.

If you travel them, you’ll likely meet a farmer or rancher driving large farm equipment or hauling trailers. When that happens, please be patient. Slow down and give them some space. They’re driving those roads to help bring food from the fields to our tables.

Texas landowners can help contribute to the Texas NWS response in many ways. One of those could be by allowing NWS traps to be placed on their property.

-Traps will not cause NWS to spread to new areas, but they will help us to detect the pest if it spreads further.
-NWS fly traps monitor for the pest, adding a layer of surveillance and bolstering early detection for a quick response, if NWS is detected.
-Trap locations and attractants are carefully selected and closely monitored to ensure optimal effectiveness and quick detection by animal health officials. It is not recommended for individuals to place their own traps.
-Allowing animal health officials to place traps on properties contributes directly to the overall response. USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

Emerald ash borer has been detected in five additional Texas counties: Delta, Erath, Hardin, Walker and Wood.

Eight new counties have now been confirmed with EAB this year, with Hardin County marking the southernmost known infestation in North America.

As EAB continues to spread across Texas, monitoring helps track its movement and provides information to help landowners and communities prepare.

Robertson County will be experiencing extreme temperatures over the next 10 days or so, and we encourage everyone to begin making plans now to stay safe.

If you know you may have difficulty maintaining a safe temperature inside your home, please make arrangements with family or friends to relocate temporarily until conditions improve. Don’t wait until your home becomes dangerously hot to make a plan.

We also ask everyone to check on family members, friends, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat. A phone call or quick visit could make a big difference. Make sure they have adequate air conditioning, plenty of water, and a safe place to go if needed.

And remember—outdoor pets are family too. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water, shade, and a way to escape the extreme heat. If possible, bring them into a cooler environment during the hottest part of the day.

Plan ahead. Check on each other. Stay Hydrated, Stay Safe, and Stay Blessed!
