🎃👻 Our Helena Police Explorers had a wonderful time at Cops and Goblins Trunk or Treat, hosted by the Helena, Alabama Police Department!

The Explorers had the opportunity to set up their very own trunk, meet members of our community, and share information about the SAFE trailer. We bring this trailer to community events to provide a quiet space for anyone who needs a break from the noise and excitement. We loved helping citizens learn about this resource and how it can make attending events more comfortable! 💙

Thank you to all the departments, vendors, and food trucks that came out and helped make this event such a great success—and to everyone who stopped by to visit our Explorers!

A special thank-you to the Helena Police Department for hosting such a wonderful event and giving our Explorers the opportunity to be involved. We’re proud to serve and connect with our community! 🚔🎃

🚔 Traffic Stop & Radio Training! 🚔

Over the last few weeks, our Helena Police Explorers have been hard at work learning about traffic stops and the many different situations officers may encounter during them.

Our Explorers started in the classroom learning the fundamentals before putting that knowledge into action with hands-on scenarios. They practiced both single-officer and two-officer traffic stops, working on communication, officer safety, teamwork, and decision-making throughout different scenarios.

They have also been learning about probable cause and the important differences between detaining someone and taking someone into custody.
Radio communication has also been a big part of their training! The Explorers have been learning proper radio etiquette, how to call out a traffic stop, and how to keep dispatch informed as a situation develops. They have practiced status checks and the proper way to run information over the radio, including vehicle tags, operator license numbers (OLNs), and fi****ms.

Learning how to clearly and effectively communicate with dispatch is an important part of working through any call or traffic stop, especially when circumstances begin to change.

And of course, we can’t forget how we start our meetings—PT followed by drill and ceremony! 💪

We are incredibly proud of these kids for continuing to show up, learn, ask questions, and put in the work each week. Every meeting gives them another opportunity to build their knowledge, confidence, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Keep up the great work, Explorers! 🚔💙

Helena Old Town Oktoberfest!

The Helena Police Explorers are out at Oktoberfest today helping families enjoy a fun and safe day in our community!

Our Explorers will be working at the wristband tent, where parents can stop by and get a wristband for their child. A parent or guardian’s phone number can be written on the wristband so that if a child and their family become separated during the event, there’s a quick way to help reunite them. 💙

If you’re bringing the kids out today, be sure to stop by the wristband tent and see our Explorers!

We’re proud of our Explorers for giving their time to serve our community and help keep our youngest Oktoberfest visitors safe. 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

Have a safe and fun Oktoberfest, Helena!

🚔 Traffic Stops & Vehicle Searches 🚔
Today, the Helena Police Explorers spent their meeting learning about traffic stops and vehicle searches!
Explorers worked through the steps of conducting a traffic stop, officer safety, communication, and what to look for when approaching and interacting with a vehicle. They also learned about vehicle searches and the importance of handling each situation safely and professionally.
A huge thank you to Officer Hadaway for stopping by and sharing his real-world experience with our Explorers! He talked about how he approaches traffic stops, what he has learned throughout his career, and gave the Explorers some great insight they can carry into future training scenarios.
We always appreciate our officers taking the time to help teach and mentor the next generation! 💙🚔

🚔 Helena Police Explorers | Leadership in Action 🚔
Tonight’s meeting started with PT, giving our Explorers an opportunity to continue building their physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline before moving into the classroom and scenarios.
A major focus of the evening was leadership and delegation. Our Explorers discussed what it means to lead a team while also recognizing the strengths of the people around them. Being a good leader doesn’t mean you have to handle every task yourself—it means knowing when someone on your team may be more experienced, confident, or better suited for a particular responsibility and trusting them to step up.
They worked on communicating with their team, assigning responsibilities, using everyone’s strengths, and keeping the group organized while working through scenarios. These are skills that help build not only stronger leaders, but stronger teams.
Our Sergeants also had the opportunity to step into a teaching role, leading their peers through a refresher on misdemeanor and felony domestic violence calls. They reviewed how officers should approach and work through domestic-related scenarios, communicate with everyone involved, gather information, and make appropriate decisions based on the circumstances presented.
One of the best ways to strengthen your own knowledge is to teach it to someone else. We’re proud to see our Explorers becoming more confident in leading, teaching, communicating, and working together as a team.
Another great Monday night of learning and training for the Helena Police Explorers! 💙🚔

Another great night of training for the Helena, Alabama Police Department Explorers!

Tonight, our explorers had the opportunity to train alongside the Helena Fire Department, learning several different methods of breaching doors and when each technique may be used. Afterward, they put those skills into action by working on building clearing and threshold assessments, focusing on communication, teamwork, and making safe decisions before entering a room.

A huge thank you to the Helena, Alabama Fire Department for taking the time to share their knowledge and experience with our explorers. Opportunities like these give our members valuable hands-on training while strengthening the partnership between our police and fire departments.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, professionalism, and willingness to learn that our explorers continue to demonstrate each week. Every training builds confidence, teamwork, and prepares them for future careers in public safety.

If you’re between the ages of 14 and 21 and are interested in law enforcement, leadership, and serving your community, we’d love to have you join us!

There was no better way to kick off our first meeting after the ALEEAA Academy than by getting right back to work!

Our Explorers started the evening with PT, pushing themselves and continuing to build the physical fitness needed for future training and competitions. After PT, we moved into the classroom to begin discussing domestic violence calls. These situations are often some of the most challenging and unpredictable that law enforcement officers respond to, making it an important topic for our Explorers to learn about.

We’re proud to see our Explorers bringing the knowledge, confidence, and motivation they gained at the academy back to our weekly meetings. We can’t wait to continue building on that momentum throughout the year!
