LONG POST ALERT
Thankfully, we don't say this often but, we are under a TROPICAL STORM WATCH and FLOOD WATCH. What does that mean for us? Well, we aren't meteorologists, but we do know everyone should have a plan to ensure their safety. This may include extra food and water, flashlights and batteries, cellphone chargers and whatever you and you family would need in case power is knocked out for an extended time. Also, be sure you have any medications handy as well as making sure loved ones and pets are safe.

As far as the weather, expect rainfall totals between 1.5 to 4 inches on Saturday. Take some time to make sure those drains are cleared. Windy? Yup, 30-40 mph with even higher gusts. Strap down those trampolines and that patio furniture.

And, lastly, have a way to get weather alerts where ever you are. Follow a trusted weather source such as US National Weather Service Birmingham Alabama for the most up-to-date information.

Stay safe this weekend. The Police, Fire and Public Works Departments are ready to go if needed.

Isaias is now a MAJOR hurricane; will make landfall late tonight along the northern Gulf Coast. Significant Alabama wind, tornado and flooding impacts are imminent...New info from AEMA Meteorologist Jim Stefkovich is posted below!

The Helena Police Department would like to take a moment to honor one of our longtime dispatchers, Ken Adams, for his incredible 24 years of service to the City of Helena.

Throughout his career, Ken has served in every position within the Communications Division, from call taker to jailer. For 24 years, he has dedicated his time, knowledge, and commitment to providing essential services to the citizens of Helena.

Ken’s connection to the Helena Police Department began even before his career in communications, as he volunteered for several years as a Helena Police Explorer. His years of service reflect a true commitment to our community and the people he has served.

Today, we recognize Ken for his dedication, hard work, and 24 years of service to the City of Helena. We are grateful for everything he has contributed to our department and our community.

Thank you, Ken, for your many years of service and dedication. We wish you all the best in your future adventures! 🚔👏
