🚒❤️ A special ride for a future firefighter! ❤️🚒
Today, Helenville Fire & Rescue had the honor of giving Michael a ride to school in a fire truck of his choice! Michael won the ride at our open house and has been excited ever since he learned he was the winner.
Michael just celebrated his 12th birthday on October 27 and is a sixth grader at Jefferson Middle School. He already has his heart set on becoming a firefighter—he even asked at our open house if he could join right now! While he has a few years to wait, he’s already putting his enthusiasm into action. Michael spends much of his time checking out books from the local library to learn and research what it takes to be a firefighter, studying the skills, procedures, and hard work that go into serving others. 📚🚒
His connection to Helenville runs deep. His grandma Jackie served as a First Responder with our department, and he is proud of his late uncle, Michael Scott Schmidt, who served as both a firefighter and First Responder.
Michael has also experienced heartbreaking loss, losing both his parents, Ashley and Jesse, within the past year and a half. Today was an opportunity to celebrate Michael, share in his excitement, and create a happy memory with a department that means so much to him. ❤️
A special thank-you to Ashley Schuld for coordinating this experience, and to Grandma Jackie Wergin-Trudeaufor sharing Michael’s story with us.
Michael, thank you for letting us be part of your special day! Keep learning, dreaming big, and holding on to that passion for helping others. We’ll be cheering you on—and wishing you a very happy belated birthday! 🎂🚒
