The Helper Museum is located in the small town of Helper, Utah. Helper is named for the engines required to help the trains climb the steep grades to Soldier Summit toward Salt Lake City. The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad established the town when the railroad came through the area, and coal that was needed to fuel the steam engines was found nearby. By 1891, a rail depot, a roundhouse, and a hotel were built and the town was founded. As more coal mines were opened in the surrounding area, Helper became the railroad center and commercial hub for coal miners and their families who lived in the many mining camps and company towns in Carbon County. Helper’s Mining & Railroad Museum tells the story of life in the coal camps and the European and Asian immigrants who helped build the area.

BREAKING NEWS FROM HELPER

Something strange may be happening after hours at The Helper Museum...

Witnesses claim they’ve spotted well-dressed figures wandering Main Street late at night and some say the museum’s mannequins aren’t always standing exactly where they were left.

By morning? Every mannequin is reportedly back in place like nothing happened.

So the question remains...

Do the mannequins of the Helper Museum walk the streets at night?

We’re investigating. The mannequins are refusing to comment.

Yesterday someone from Missouri stopped by the museum. She introduced herself as a descendant of Teancum Pratt, Helper's first pioneer, and wondered if we had anything about him.
Our Director Roman said "I want to show you something" and directed her to the introduction of our museum, which is the story of Teancum.
"I was literally brought to tears, I had no idea this amazing museum was here in Helper!"
Teancum is her great grandfather, this is JoEllen Marie Pratt Duncan.
