We’re here to serve and protect and sometimes that includes our furry friends, too. 🐾🔥 Over the weekend HPD officers along with firefighters responded to a residential fire and worked quickly to provide lifesaving aid to these cute little friends. Fortunately, all residents were not home at the time of the fire.

What does "It All Adds Up" mean? It means tougher penalties for serial retail thieves.
Did you know that under Proposition 36, which became law in December 2024, the value of stolen property from multiple smaller thefts can be combined to meet the $950 threshold to charge you with a felony — even if those thefts were committed at different times and from different victims? Prop 36 also increases penalties for property crimes resulting in losses exceeding $50,000 and for crimes involving multiple perpetrators.
We're taking retail theft seriously and holding criminals accountable, and even seemingly smaller thefts can still add up to big trouble for offenders. Get the facts at fightretailtheft.org

What does "It All Adds Up" mean? It means that the costs of organized retail theft go far beyond the lost merchandise itself. These crimes have consequences that affect everyone - harming our businesses, damaging our local economy, driving unemployment, diverting resources away from the community, diminishing our residents' quality of life and sense of safety, and resulting in jail or prison time for offenders. That's why we're working with the whole community to combat organized retail theft in our city.

Last night, the Hemet City Council recognized National Police Week by presenting the Hemet Police Department with a proclamation, presented by Mayor Pro Tem Joe Males.

In 1962, Congress and President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. During National Police Week, we remember our fallen heroes and thank those who continue to serve with courage and commitment.

The evening also included a special presentation from Matt Odin of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), recognizing Chief of Police Michael Arellano for earning his Executive POST Certificate.

Chief Arellano began his law enforcement career in 2003 with the San Diego Police Department and joined the City of Hemet in 2006. Throughout his career, he has served in patrol, K-9, SWAT, and leadership roles before becoming the City of Hemet’s 19th Chief of Police in December 2023.

Congratulations, Chief Arellano, on this outstanding achievement.
