The Hofstra University Summer High School Journalism Institute is funded with the generous support of the Press Club of Long Island and the New York Press Association. Its mission is to introduce Nassau County high school students from communities of color to journalism and encourage them to enter the field. Participants must have demonstrated a prior interest in the media through their participation in their student newspapers and/or literary journals.

Days Five and Six of the Hofstra University Summer High School Journalism Institute were busy as students put the finishing touches on their biographical sketches of one another. A heartfelt thank you to Keith Herbert, Newsday's investigations editor; New York Times reporter Sharon Otterman; and her brother, author and former journalist Michael Otterman, for sharing their time and expertise with our students!

We are also especially grateful to Michael, Sharon, their sister Michelle, and the Bernard & Sandra Otterman Foundation for sponsoring the Institute and making this experience possible!
