On behalf of County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman, the Office of Minority Affairs, in collaboration with Parks & Recreation and the Bureau of Health Access, was honored to host the first Roosevelt Family Resource Day on September 15, 2026.
The event was a tremendous success, welcoming more than 300 families and community members who came out to take advantage of a wide range of valuable resources. This festive afternoon in the park served as a centralized hub for families to access information and services related to healthcare, youth & family services, childcare, wellness, education, and other essential community-driven resources. In addition to connecting families with important services, the event offered a day of fun and community engagement.
Children enjoyed activities such as face painting and balloon art, while families were able to enjoy refreshments and spend time together in a welcoming atmosphere in the newly renovated Centennial Park.
Participating agencies included the Office of Minority Affairs, Allied Health, Community Health, Youth Services, Adelphi Breast Cancer, EOC of Nassau County, Harmony Health, Child Care Council, Choice for All, Cultivating Lives, Family and Children Association, Four Leaf Federal Credit Union, Fidelis Care, NAACP Freeport-Roosevelt branch, Zion Cathedral Social Action Ministry, Project Foodbox, Hope for Youth and Jackson Legacy Legal Services, PLLC.
OMA was excited to be able to provide families with tangible resources and support. More than 300 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to children, along with T-shirts and socks. Families also had the opportunity to receive fresh vegetables and other essential items, with the goal of supporting local households.
We are grateful to all the participating agencies, community partners, and residents who helped make the inaugural Roosevelt Family Resource Day a successful and meaningful event. The day reflected the power of collaboration and our continued commitment to connecting Nassau County families with the resources, services, and opportunities they need to thrive.
