Burn Permits are now required for any outdoor burning!!!

From Oct. 15 through May 15, a FREE burn permit from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) is required to burn yard debris or conduct prescribed fires.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» Online permits are issued 7 days a week, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time at BurnSafeTN.org.
πŸ“ž Permits may also be obtained over the phone by calling 877-350-BURN (2876), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time.
πŸ”₯ Permits are valid until midnight on the day they are obtained, so plan to obtain a permit the day you plan to burn.

Why permits matter:
πŸ”₯ Tennessee experiences approximately 1,000 wildfires each year during fire season, which is from mid-October to mid-May. This is when fire risk is highest in the state.
‼️ Most fires are caused by human activity, including burning under unsafe conditions.
πŸ“£ Burn permits are our way of communicating with you about when and where it is safe enough to burn during fire season.

How do we decide when to temporarily pause issuing permits?
πŸ“ˆ Every day during fire season, TDF's expert fire professionals analyze many fire weather data points, using a tool customized to Tennessee's wildfire fuels.
➑️ Based on that data analysis and on conditions on the ground, a decision is made every morning at the local level about whether it is safe enough to burn that day.
πŸ”₯ If fire danger is too high that day, we will temporarily pause issuing permits. Once conditions improve, we will resume issuing permits.

Learn more about how to burn safely and what is legal to burn by visiting BurnSafeTN.org.

πŸ“ CHESTER COUNTY 9-1-1 ADDRESSING POLICY

🏠 BEFORE YOU BUILD β€” GET YOUR 9-1-1 ADDRESS!

Your 9-1-1 address is an important part of our emergency communications system. Accurate addressing helps 9-1-1, law enforcement, fire, and EMS responders locate your property when seconds matter.

The Chester County Emergency Communications District follows Tennessee law and applicable Tennessee NG9-1-1 GIS and NENA standards when assigning addresses and naming roads.

πŸ“ WHEN DO I NEED TO CONTACT 9-1-1 ADDRESSING?

Contact Chester County 9-1-1 Addressing when:

🏠 Building a new home or business
πŸ—οΈ Developing or dividing property
🏘️ Creating a subdivision or mobile home park
πŸ›£οΈ Requesting a new road or private road name
πŸ“ Needing an address for a structure

βœ… ADDRESSING REQUIREMENTS

Before an address can be assigned:

β€’ The structure must be staked or clearly marked.
β€’ The driveway must be clearly marked.
β€’ The road must be approved before an address can be issued.
β€’ Subdivisions, mobile home parks, and developments must receive the required planning commission approval before road names and addresses are assigned.
β€’ Each structure receives its own address.
β€’ Once your home or structure is complete, the address must be clearly visible from the road.

πŸ”’ HOW ARE ADDRESSES ASSIGNED?

Chester County 9-1-1 uses a standardized frontage interval addressing system. Address numbers are based on the location of the structure along the road, with approximately one potential address number every 5.28 feet.

➑️ Right side of the road = EVEN numbers
⬅️ Left side of the road = ODD numbers

Fractional, alphanumeric, and hyphenated addresses are not used.

πŸ›£οΈ WHAT ABOUT PRIVATE ROADS?

Private roads can be assigned an official street name for addressing purposes. However, naming a private road does not mean the county or city will maintain the road, and it does not guarantee mail delivery. The road remains private.

πŸ’° IS THERE A FEE?

NO!

There is no charge for 9-1-1 addressing.

πŸ• WHEN CAN I REQUEST AN ADDRESS?

Addressing requests may be made:

Monday–Friday
8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Except federal holidays

Requests may be made by phone or in person.

🚨 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Your address is more than a number.

Accurate address information is an important part of the NG9-1-1 system and GIS data used for 9-1-1 call routing and emergency response. Keeping your address accurate and clearly visible helps responders identify and locate your property.

πŸ“’ REMEMBER:

BEFORE YOU BUILD β€” CONTACT CHESTER COUNTY 9-1-1 ADDRESSING.

πŸ“ Get your address assigned properly.
πŸ“ Make sure your driveway is clearly marked.
πŸ“ Display your address where it can be seen from the road.

NASHVILLE β€” Beginning Oct. 15, Tennesseans must obtain a free burn permit before burning leaves or natural debris or conducting prescribed burns. As wildfire season begins, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) encourages residents and visitors to observe National Fire Prevention Week by practicing fire prevention and exercising extra caution when burning outdoors. Tennessee averages about 1,000 wildfires each year, burning approximately 18,000 acres.

β€œMore than 90% of wildfires in Tennessee are caused by human activities, including escaped debris burns,” State Forester Heather Slayton said. β€œThat means individual actions matter – choosing to avoid burning on high fire danger days, getting a burn permit, taking steps to burn safely and staying with your fire until it is completely out can make a meaningful difference in preventing destructive wildfires in our state.”

TDF is Tennessee’s lead wildfire agency and is responsible by law for administering the burn permit system. Burn permits help TDF communicate when and where conditions are safe for burning and are issued only when fire danger is at an acceptable level. When hazardous conditions β€” such as high winds, very low humidity or extremely dry vegetation and debris β€” increase wildfire risk, TDF temporarily pauses permit issuance until conditions improve.
