Audubon Museum and Nature Center are currently operating under winter hours--closed Mondays and Tuesdays; open Wednesday through Sunday, 9 A.M.-4 P.M. Additionally, the Museum and Nature Center will close for the holidays at the end of the day Dec. 23, reopening January 2, 2026. John James Audubon State Park is open sunrise to sunset year-round, unless hazardous conditions exist. Cottages are normally open year-round, but will be CLOSED December 2025-March 2026 for renovations. To check cottage availability or make reservations, please call 270-826-2247. Audubon Golf Course is open year-round, but hours may vary and are weather dependent. Please call (270)826-5546 to confirm daily operation times. Four picnic shelters are available for rental. For details and reservations, please contact (270)826-2247. The Audubon Campground is open mid-March through mid-November. Reservations are booked through ReserveAmerica.com. All hiking trails except one are within a designated State Nature Preserve and must follow preserve rules of no pets. Leashed pets are allowed ONLY on Eagle Glen Pet Trail. Leashed pets are allowed in other areas of the park. There are more places to explore! Check out Audubon Wetlands on Wolf Hills Road, just north of the main park. Gate opens by early morning and closes at dusk. Cars should park in the gravel lot. The trails are ADA accessible, and include a 750-ft. boardwalk overlooking a shrub wetland, and a level, wooded path around a bottomland hardwood forest. A cypress slough can be observed from Wolf Hills Road. Leashed pets and bicycles are allowed on the designated trails. The wetland may close periodically due to flooding of the nearby Ohio River.

A special shout out to Warren Grove on the recent completion of his Eagle Scout project at John James Audubon State Park! Visitors to our Nature Preserve will notice each trailhead entrance now has a boot brush station. While these are wonderful for cleaning the mud off your shoes after your hike, they actually have another important purpose--to help stop the spread of invasive plant seeds. Some non-native plants are prolific seed producers and can quite agressively take over the habitats of our native plants, shading out native plants and out-competing them for resources like water and soil minerals. Unbeknownst to you, seeds may hitch a ride on your shoes and clothing, getting a handy transport to another place to begin their growth. A sign atop each brush station has info about some of these plants. Before coming in or leaving the preserve, give your shoes a brush to dislodge those unwanted seeds!

Thanks to Warren for providing these for the park! And thanks to the many family members, friends, fellow scouts, and local businesses who helped with donations, labor and supplies, and to our Friends of Audubon for partially funding Warren's endeavor. The Park appreciates you!

Heads up to our trail hikers--a portion of Pawpaw Valley Trail is closed until further notice. A large tree limb, still partially attached, has fallen. This limb and several smaller trees that were topped as it fell, is blocking the path. Pawpaw Valley is CLOSED between Warbler Road and Woodpecker Trails until we can clear the path.
If you are hiking down KY Coffeetree or Woodpecker, plan to use either Pawpaw to the north, up to Museum Loop, or take Deer Ridge to Museum Loop to exit the preserve.
For your safety, do NOT CROSS trail closure signs!

Anytime you notice trail obstructions, please notify our office. Please do not create a path around a downed tree. This is dangerous and also harms sensitive plants/animals in our preserve that may be trampled underfoot.

It's Arts & Crafts Festival weekend! If you're planning to attend the Festival--fantastic!! It is open 10 AM to 4 PM Saturday and Sunday.
If you're not attending the festival, please note--the park is CLOSED except for festival-goers. If you'd like to get in some hiking, please visit Audubon Wetlands on Wolf Hills Rd. The Audubon Wetlands Trails will be open this weekend.

One other thing to know: Pawpaw Valley Trail is CLOSED between the valley bridge and the employee parking lot service road. A big 'ole tree limb is hanging over and blocking the path. Do NOT use this portion of trail. Instead, if hiking Coffeetree or Woodpecker Trails, take Pawpaw Valley to the north and come up to Museum Trail as your detour or use Deer Ridge.
