Yesterday afternoon, multiple agencies responded to an incident in the Green River Narrows involving a patient with a potentially serious leg injury. The technical rescue required significant manpower and specialized rope systems to safely transport the patient through challenging terrain and a roughly 300-foot incline.

Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue requested mutual aid to assist with the operation. Responding agencies included Henderson County Rescue Squad , Transylvania County Rescue Squad , Haywood County Search & Rescue , and Saluda Fire & Rescue.

We’re grateful for the collaboration between agencies and the dedication of every responder who helped make this technical rescue possible.

At about 8:38 p.m., Saturday, October 10, the rescue squad and Hendersonville Fire Department responded to their first water rescue during impacts due to remnants of Isaias. The squad says the patient was safely rescued.

Henderson County Rescue Squad has been on standby since this morning as Tropical Storm Isaias approaches Western North Carolina. Approximately 30 members are currently staged at the station, ready to respond to search and rescue emergencies as conditions continue to develop.

At approximately 8:38 p.m., our team deployed alongside Hendersonville Fire Department for our first water rescue of the storm. Thanks to the coordinated response, the patient was successfully rescued.

Our members remain alert and ready as concerns continue to grow over potential flash flooding, landslides, and power outages. Conditions can change quickly, and our teams are prepared to respond when called.

Please stay weather-aware and make safety a priority. Never drive through floodwater, even if it looks shallow. Turn around, don’t drown!

Isaias has strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane overnight. While the latest forecast track from the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC shows growing confidence in the track of the storm, there’s still some uncertainty in expected rainfall — and that’s completely normal at this stage.

Isaias has strengthened to a Cat 1 Hurricane overnight. Here is the latest forecast track from the National Hurricane Center. Forecast confidence is increasing on the track, but uncertainty remains in the rainfall.
