If you've been to the library this month, you may have seen the newest display courtesy of the Philippine Cultural and Historical Association. Come learn about some of the famous Fil-Am Theater Luminaries gracing stages across the world.

And don't miss the library's presentation of "Giyera: The Musical", an original musical composed, written and directed by Hercules' very own Henry Torres, of Music Repertoire!

Saturday, October 17th 1:00pm
All are welcome

Originally created 20 years ago for Philippine American youth in the Bay Area to commemorate Filipino American History Month, Giyera tells the powerful story of a small Philippine town on the eve of World War II. As the people of Santa Maria prepare for their annual fiesta and celebrate a young couple’s upcoming wedding, they remain unaware of the Japanese invasion that will soon change their lives forever.

We had so much fun creating alebrije inspired art at the library this afternoon! Kids used brightly colored acrylic markers, pencils and gems to craft visually stunning fantastical creatures reminiscent of the papier-mâché figures created by Pedro Linares in Mexico City in the 1930s and later the carved copal-wood figures from Oaxaca Mexico.
