🔥 It's National Propane Day — Let’s Talk Propane Safety! 🔥

Today is National Propane Day, a great opportunity to recognize propane as an important energy source—and to remind everyone to use it safely. Propane is safe when handled properly, but a few simple precautions can make a big difference:

🛢️ Check your tanks and connections — Look for damage, corrosion, or signs of a leak.
👃 Know the smell — Propane has an odor added to help you detect a leak. If you smell rotten eggs, a skunk-like odor, or something unusual, take it seriously.
🚫 If you smell propane, don't create a spark. Don't turn lights or appliances on or off, use a phone inside the building, or operate anything that could ignite the gas.
🏃 Leave the area immediately — Get everyone outside and away from the area.
📞 Call 911 from a safe location and notify your propane supplier.

🔥 Never use or store propane cylinders improperly. Keep cylinders upright and away from heat sources and ignition sources.
🍳 Never use outdoor propane appliances indoors. Grills, patio heaters, and other outdoor appliances can produce carbon monoxide and should always be used outdoors.
🏠 Have your propane system professionally inspected and serviced when needed, and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do if a leak is suspected.

A few seconds of preparation today can help prevent a serious emergency tomorrow. Stay safe, stay prepared. ❤️‍🔥 Please click on the link below for additional information. https://propane.com/safety/important-propane-safety-information/

We closed out the weekend with visitors from the University of Maryland - College Park Business, Society, and Entrepreneurship Scholars Program. They received a tour and learned about history of the HVFD.
