Today, our deputies responded to a traffic accident where the vehicle owner needed to be transported for medical evaluation and had no immediate family in the area to care for her dog.

The dog was safely inside the vehicle, and rather than having her spend the afternoon at the shelter, our deputies decided to bring her along for a ride until family members could arrive and pick her up.

Sometimes, being a deputy means going above and beyond in ways you may not expect. Today, that meant making sure one four-legged member of our community was taken care of.

Serving our community means going beyond the call. This is what community policing is all about — building relationships, helping our neighbors, and taking care of our community in every way we can.

This morning, the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Perquimans County Intermediate School to conduct a lockdown drill. These drills help strengthen our emergency preparedness, improve coordination between school staff and law enforcement, and ensure we are taking proactive steps to keep our students and staff safe. School safety remains a priority, and we appreciate the continued partnership and cooperation of our school system.

This past weekend, the Chowan, Pasquotank, and Perquimans County Sheriff’s Offices teamed up and took the field against the Gates, Currituck, and Camden County Sheriff’s Offices for the 2026 Battle of the Badges, benefiting the Open Door Food Pantry.

There was plenty of trash talking — along with some pretty creative (and probably AI-generated) flyers from both teams. In the end, Gates, Currituck, and Camden came out victorious!

While the game was competitive, the fellowship between our agencies was one of the best parts of the day. Events like this give us an opportunity to come together outside of work, build relationships with one another, and strengthen the relationships between our agencies and the communities we serve.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event, we were able to collect a large amount of canned goods for the Open Door Food Pantry to help local families in need. We also collected monetary donations that will be used during the Christmas season for our Shop with a Cop outreach, helping local children experience a special Christmas shopping trip with our deputies.

A special thank you to TEKreations for capturing the day. Check out the photos from the event here:

We would also like to give a special thank you to Parks Zeigler, PLLC for sponsoring and supporting this year’s Battle of the Badges, along with everyone else who helped make this event possible.

We may have lost on the scoreboard, but we all won by coming together for a great cause. We look forward to continuing to grow this event and finding new ways to bring our agencies and communities together!
