The AAA offers a variety of services to Older Adults in the counties of Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington. Our services include:

Senior Nutrition– The Senior Nutrition Program promotes, maintains, and improves the health and well-being of older adults through the provision of a nutritionally balanced meal five days per week served in a congregate setting or delivered to the home. Services are available to persons 60 years of age and older and their spouses regardless of age. Long Term Care Ombudsman – The Ombudsman Program is an advocate for residents’ rights and is responsible for investigating complaints made by, or on behalf of, nursing and adult care home residents. Ombudsmen work with residents, family members, concerned citizens, facilities, and public or private agencies to enhance the quality of care and life for residents in long term care facilities. Family Caregiver Support Program– The National Family Caregiver Support Program was established to help family and informal caregivers care for their loved ones at home for as long as possible. FSCP helps caregivers by providing information to connect them with the right resources; counseling, support groups, and education; respite (short term relief); and short term or one time only services. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention – Community-based prevention programs support older adults in maintaining optimal physical, mental, and emotional health. The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention efforts are focused on partnering to deliver evidence-based health promotion programs; reducing the number of falls and fall related injuries; and self-management of chronic diseases. Albemarle Senior Games – The Albemarle Senior Games is sanctioned by the North Carolina Senior Games, which began in 1983 with a vision to create a year round health promotion and education program for adults 50 years of age and better. Each Spring participants can enjoy friendly competition with others in their own s*x and age category in athletic events and artistic categories. Senior Tar Heel Legislature – The Senior Tar Heel Legislature was created to provide information to senior citizens on the legislative process and matters being considered by the North Carolina General Assembly; promote citizen involvement and advocacy concerning aging issues; and assess the legislative needs of older citizens by convening a forum modeled after the North Carolina General Assembly.

☀ Celebrating 50 Years of Weatherization! ❄

For 50 years, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) has been making a difference in communities across the nation by helping low-income households improve energy efficiency, reduce utility costs, and create safer, healthier, and more comfortable homes!

Since 1976, this vital program has helped families, older adults, and individuals with limited incomes make energy-saving improvements that have a lasting impact.
At the Albemarle Commission, we are proud to be part of this legacy! Through our Weatherization Assistance Program, we help eligible households throughout northeastern North Carolina make important energy efficiency improvements while easing the financial burden of heating and cooling their homes.

As we celebrate this incredible 50-year milestone, we recognize the dedicated staff, contractors, community partners, and supporters who make this work possible.

If you are interested in learning more about the Weatherization Assistance Program, contact our office at 252-426-5753 to learn more!

Here's to continuing the mission of making homes more energy-efficient, affordable, and comfortable for years to come!

❤️ The Right to Stay Connected

Relationships with family, friends, and the community are an important part of quality of life.

Residents have rights related to visitors, communication, participation in activities, and maintaining meaningful relationships.

A phone call, visit, card, or conversation can make a difference. During Residents’ Rights Month, we encourage families and communities to continue showing up, staying connected, and reminding residents that they remain an important part of our communities.

🎅🎄 Santa for Seniors Update: ALL 71 SENIORS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED! 🎄🎅

What an incredible community we have!

After receiving several additional wish lists that came in late, our Santa for Seniors program grew to 71 Home Delivered Meals clients hoping for a little extra Christmas cheer this year.

We are thrilled to announce that ALL 71 SENIORS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED! ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our 38 amazing adopters who stepped up to make sure every single senior on our list will have gifts to open this Christmas!

We also want to thank everyone who shared our posts, spread the word, and helped us reach these wonderful individuals and groups. Your shares truly made a difference!

For many of our seniors, these gifts mean so much more than what is wrapped inside. They are a reminder that someone in their community is thinking of them and cares.

From all of us at Albemarle Commission's Senior Nutrition Program, THANK YOU for making sure no senior on our list was forgotten this Christmas!

📣 Every Resident Deserves to Be Heard

Residents have the right to voice concerns, ask questions, make complaints, and advocate for themselves without fear of retaliation.

Families can also play an important role by listening, asking questions, and helping residents communicate their wishes.

No concern is too small when it affects a resident’s care, dignity, comfort, or quality of life.

Residents have a voice—and that voice matters.

Individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations are all welcome to participate! You can even request a male or female senior or choose to adopt from a specific county within our 10-county region.

Let's make sure no senior is forgotten this Christmas!

❤️ Please share this post! With your help, we can find Santas for all 43 remaining seniors and spread a little extra love and joy this Christmas season!

💙 Residents Have the Right to Make Their Own Choices

Living in a long-term care facility does not mean giving up the right to make personal decisions. Residents have the right to participate in decisions about their care, daily routines, activities, and other aspects of their lives.

During Residents’ Rights Month, we celebrate the importance of listening to residents, respecting their preferences, and ensuring their voices are heard.

Every resident deserves choice, dignity, and respect.
