The Commonwealth of Kentucky is now in their Fall wildfire hazard season.

As of October 1st, outdoor burning restrictions will be in place until December 15th.

Kentucky’s outdoor burning law now prohibits burning between the hours of 6:00 a.m and 6 p.m., if the fire is within 150 feet of any woodland, brushland, or fields containing dry grass.

The Kentucky Division of Forestry responds to 850 to 1,000 wildfires annually across the state.

Studies have shown that 99-percent of the fires are caused by human activity, with half of those started by arsonists.

State Forester Brandon Howard said the Fall season escalates wildfire potential, with all residents urged to use good judgement with any burning, grilling or campfires.
