Hickman Fire & Rescue would like to congratulate Allie Zupp on receiving the PulsePoint Responder Award for her role in providing resuscitation during a cardiac emergency. Her willingness to step in and help when every second counted is something to be proud of! We are grateful for community members like Allie who make a difference when it matters most. 👏❤️

📱 Did you know? PulsePoint is a free app available to the public that can alert CPR-trained community members to nearby cardiac emergencies, helping get lifesaving assistance started before professional responders arrive. The app also helps users recognize when CPR is needed and locate nearby AEDs.

Every second counts. You could help save a life! ❤️

Last Friday, we took one of our fire vehicles to Council Bluffs to show our support and pay our respects to a firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We were honored to stand alongside our fellow first responders and pay tribute to a life dedicated to serving others. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and fire department during this difficult time. 🚒❤️

Community members and firefighters from across the region gathered Thursday to honor Charles Jones, a 19-year Council Bluffs Fire Department veteran who died Oct. 8 at age 52. ⤵️ Find a link to the story in the comments.

🦌🚗 Deer are on the move!

As the seasons change, deer become more active, especially around dawn and dusk. Slow down, stay alert, watch the roadsides, and remember that where there’s one deer, there may be more!

Give yourself plenty of time to react, keep your eyes on the road, and always wear your seatbelt. A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference.

Help keep our roads safe and get home safely! ❤️🚒

🎃👻 Trick or Treat at the Station! 🚒🧡

Join us at the Hickman Fire Station on Saturday, October 24th, from 5:30–7:30 PM! Wear your costumes, bring the family, and stop by for some Halloween fun with your Hickman Fire & Rescue family! 🧡

🌮 Walking tacos will be available for purchase for $5 a plate.

We can’t wait to see all the little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses! Hope to see you there! 🎃🚒

🚒 We enjoyed welcoming a local homeschool group to the fire station! The kids had the opportunity to learn about fire safety, check out our equipment, and get a glimpse of what our firefighters and EMS team do to serve our community. We love connecting with our community and helping the next generation learn about staying safe. Thanks for spending part of your day with us! ❤️

🚒 Help us welcome Zach Vyhnalek to Hickman Fire & Rescue! 🚑

Firefighting runs in Zach’s family! As a fourth-generation volunteer firefighter and EMT, serving his community is something he grew up around and has a passion for. Zach currently volunteers in his hometown and is now bringing his experience, dedication, and willingness to learn to our team as well.

We’re excited to have him join the Hickman Fire & Rescue family as he continues to grow his skills, improve patient care, and serve our community alongside a great group of people.

❤️ Behind the Scenes at HFR

Our community sees us respond to the calls, but there’s a side of this job that isn’t always visible.

We’re people, too. We have families, emotions, and hearts that are affected by the things we see. When our community goes through difficult times, we feel it right alongside them.

The past week and a half has brought some tough calls. The photo below was taken at 5:45 am cleaning the ambulance and getting it ready to go back out the door. Because even after a hard middle of the night call, the next person who needs us deserves our best.

What makes this team special isn’t just how we show up for our community. It’s how we show up for each other, too. The check-ins, the conversations, and knowing we don’t have to carry the hard stuff alone.

We take care of our community, and we take care of each other. That’s what family does. ❤️🚒

🚒 Harvesting Season Fire Safety Reminder 🌾

Today, our crews responded to a harvesting fire that began spreading rapidly due to windy conditions and dry fields. Fires can get out of control in a matter of minutes, especially when the wind is working against you.

Please don’t wait until it’s out of control to call for help! If a fire starts spreading or you’re struggling to get it under control, call 911 early. It’s always better to have us respond early than to wait until it becomes a much larger emergency.

Please stay safe out there, watch the wind and dry conditions, and look out for your neighbors this harvest season. 💛
