Saturday Night First Due 2nd Alarm
Saturday night shortly after 8PM Orange 911 dispatched Highland Falls along with Fort Montgomery and West Point Fire Departments and Town of Highlands Ambulance for a reported structure fire on Lake Street in the Village. West Point’s Assistant Chief was in the area and arrived first and confirmed a working fire. Due to the Founder’s Day Fireworks Engine 428 was staffed at Roe Park and responded on dispatch and arrived first due followed shortly after by West Point and Fort Montgomery apparatus. Firefighters rapidly stretched 2 hose lines and finding an attic fire opened the ceiling and knocked down the fire. At the 10-minute mark the fire was knocked down and the primary search was complete. The 2nd Alarm brought additional companies from West Point (FAST) and Fort Montgomery. Firefighters spent the next couple hours conducting extensive overhaul and supporting the Orange County Fire Investigators. The Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinator and Town of Highlands Building Inspector were also on scene. Cornwall Fire Department stood by with an engine in Highland Falls. The rapid response and combined effort by the 3 local departments that routinely train and work together led to rapid extinguishment of the fire. The home was unoccupied and there were no injuries. The HFFD sincerely appreciates the support of all the agencies that assisted us Saturday.
