An Outdoor Warning Siren test is scheduled for today, Wednesday, September 2 at 1:00 PM

This testing is conducted on the first Wednesday of the month and may be cancelled if there is inclement weather so as to not alarm residents with a false alert of severe weather.

These sirens are also tested daily by a computer “polling” process which tells us if there is an issue or if a siren is not in working order. Additionally, each Wednesday, a “growler” test is conducted which lets us know that the sound mechanism is working.

As the name implies, this system is designed for people that are outdoors and should only be used as a supplemental warning tool for individuals.

Denton County is currently under a burn ban. Please be extremely cautious with outdoor activities.

The Denton County Commissioners Court has issued a COUNTY-WIDE MANDATORY BURN BAN, effective today, August 25, 2026.

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning and also includes restrictions on:

🚫 Outdoor hot work, including welding and cutting torch operations
🚫 The use of certain combustible materials
🚫 Other activities identified in the burn ban order that may create an increased fire hazard

Dry conditions across Denton County have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires. Everyone is encouraged to use extreme caution with any activity that could produce heat, sparks, or open flame.

⚠️ Violation of the County Judge’s executive-ordered burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

Please visit the Denton County Fire Marshal’s Office website for specific information regarding restrictions, requirements, and exceptions under the burn ban. https://www.dentoncounty.gov/210/Fire-Marshal

Help us protect our communities, property, and first responders by doing your part to prevent wildfires.

Our rookies got some valuable training in on Friday alongside Lake Cities Fire Department. Training together with our neighboring departments is always a great opportunity to sharpen our skills, build relationships, and make sure that we are ready to work seamlessly together when the real calls come in.

A big thanks to Lake Cities FD for having us out. Let's do it again real soon (maybe when the temperatures dip below triple digits).

Until then, we'll just be over here hydrating.

Thank you Robert Ray Photography for braving the heat and getting these great pictures!

Update: They are currently completing the installation and we are being told that the sound test will occur at approximately 5:15 pm.

Update: They are currently still working on installation. As soon as that is complete, they will be conducting the sound test. We do not currently have an estimate on the time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

HVFD is in the process of installing a new Outdoor Warning Siren near the Highland Shores Community Center.
Once installation is complete, we will be conducting a brief test of the siren at approximately 1:00 pm today to ensure everything is working properly.
Not everyone in Highland Village will hear the siren due to its location, but we wanted to let everyone know in advance so there are no surprises.
This is ONLY A TEST of the new Outdoor Warning Siren.
Thank you for your patience as we continue working to enhance our community's emergency notification system.
