"Today, many people know that tribal communities have grown stronger, but fewer realize how deeply tribal gaming contributes to the economic success of our state. Through ‘Committed to California,’ we’re sharing that story. Tribal gaming creates jobs, supports local businesses, invests in communities and contributes billions to California's economy. Our future is connected to the future of our state, and we’ve always been committed to California.” - Lynn Valbuena, Chairwoman of Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation

Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation has had a longstanding relationship with Ronald McDonald House Inland Empire. Just one month after the House opened its doors in September 1996, the Tribe began a partnership that would grow alongside the House and impact countless families.

Through grants, event support, volunteer projects, Meals of Love, and many acts of generosity, Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation has continued to stand beside the House and the families served.

Between 2012 and 2016, the Tribe awarded nearly $600,000 in grants to provide nearby hotel accommodations when the House reached capacity. In 2015, Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation made a transformative $5 million gift to the House’s capital campaign, helping expand the House to 53 rooms. More than just increasing occupancy, the Tribe’s support of the program’s expansion has allowed a true increase in services offered, including expanded Day Use offerings for families at the hospital, two Community Rooms, and increase emotional and mental support services.

UNLV unveiled a new "Founders Fin", a donor-recognition feature outside Hospitality Hall to honor Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation. The engraved fin acknowledges Yuhaaviatam’s visionary support in creating academic pathways for Native American students pursuing professional careers in hospitality and gaming.

The recognition stems from a $6 million 2020 gift from Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation to establish the college’s Tribal Education Initiative (TEI). Since its inception, the TEI has achieved numerous major milestones:

California Native American Day is a time to recognize the shared history, diverse cultures, and sovereign governments of California's Tribal Nations.

Since California Native American Day was formally established in 1998, important advances in public policy and education have created new opportunities for Tribal Nations to share their histories, cultures, and perspectives in classrooms throughout the state. These efforts help ensure that Native voices are represented more accurately and that future generations have a deeper understanding of California's first peoples.

Honored on the fourth Friday of September, this day offers an opportunity to celebrate the rich traditions, knowledge, languages, and contributions of Native American communities across California. We invite all Californians to learn about and engage with the Native communities in their region through art, music, food, and cultural experiences.

In honor of California Native American Day this Friday, we're celebrating the California Indian Cultural Awareness Conference at Cal State San Bernardino. 🌿

For nearly 30 years, this impactful program has connected 60,000 of students with the histories, cultures, languages, songs, and traditions of California Native peoples through direct instruction from Native culture bearers.

We extend our gratitude to the Tribal teachers from Northern, Central, and Southern California who continue to share their perspectives and histories with students and educators alike. Their dedication builds on the efforts of generations of elders and courageous Tribal community members who advocated for Native voices, histories, and cultures to be accurately represented in classrooms across California.

What began as an idea has grown into a weeklong gathering that helps ensure the next generation of Californians learns directly from Native people and gains a deeper understanding of the first peoples of this land.

Thank you Assemblymember James C. Ramos, San Bernardino City Unified School District, and CSUSB for your longstanding partnership and commitment to Native education and cultural awareness.
