All too common for state legislators across the country - of both political parties - to endure threats of political violence.

We must be able to represent our communities and advocate for our values without fear for our safety. Thinking of, and sending strength, to my friend Alma Hernandez. We will not be silent in the face of threats at a moment when so much is at stake💪👊.

Threats have altered the lives of State Representative Alma Hernandez, her family, friends and neighbors. They have even transformed her policymaking.

Yesterday, my team had the honor of attending the Retirement Ceremony at Naval Station Great Lakes, recognizing Captain Steve Yargosz.

After 27 years of dedicated service to our country, Captain Yargosz officially retired from the United States Navy, marking the conclusion of an incredible career of service, including his leadership at Naval Station Great Lakes.

Playing a vital role in preparing the next generation of sailors to serve our nation, I am proud to have the Naval Station Great Lakes in my district, and I am grateful for the thousands of service members and military families who contribute so much to our community.

I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Captain Yargosz for his 27 years of service and wish him and his family all the best in retirement! 🇺🇸

Three years ago, at 6:29 AM, a barrage of thousands of rockets was launched into Israel as Hamas-led militants infiltrated communities across southern Israel and attacked the Nova Music Festival, beginning the horrifying tragedy of October 7th - the deadliest attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust. Approximately 1,200 people were killed, more than 5,500 were wounded, and 251 people were taken hostage.

Around the world, Jewish communities faced a dramatic surge in antisemitism, while the call for the release of the hostages was heard across the globe. The final 20 living hostages returned home in October 2025, and in January 2026, the remains of the final deceased hostage were recovered and returned to Israel.

October 7th will remain a somber reminder of the tremendous pain inflicted on so many. There is great relief that those who survived captivity have returned home, but today must also remain a day to never forget the lives lost in this horrific tragedy.

B'motam tzivu lanu et hachayim - “In their deaths, they commanded us to live.”

May we continue to use this day to honor the lives we have lost and keep their memories alive.

Am Yisrael Chai! 🇮🇱

On Friday, I brought together nonprofit, foundation, and faith community leaders from across the 58th District for two roundtable conversations about what they are seeing on the ground and what our communities need from the state.

The message was clear: food insecurity, access to housing, fears surrounding ICE activity, and safety and security are among the challenges weighing heavily on the people and families our local organizations serve.

These are the leaders doing this work every day. They know where the gaps are, where demand is growing, and where state government can be a better partner. And as we prepare for the General Assembly’s return to Springfield in November and begin shaping our priorities for the spring legislative session, their recommendations will help shape the work ahead.

I’m grateful to everyone who joined us and spoke candidly about what they are seeing in our community!

Our firefighters and first responders keep us safe every day. So grateful to Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Department and loved walking through their open house today!

Overnight, Deerfield Village Hall was defaced with antisemitic vandalism. It was quickly removed upon discovery. The Village of Deerfield unequivocally condemns all acts of antisemitism and stands in solidarity with the Jewish community. Antisemitic acts of hate have no place in Deerfield or anywhere. As community leaders, it is vital to reiterate our unflinching support for our Jewish neighbors, as well as our commitment to taking every step to protect public safety.

Public safety is our top priority. The Village takes incidents like this very seriously, and is working to investigate. The Deerfield Police Department keeps a close watch on public buildings and houses of worship.

48 new American citizens were naturalized right here in the 58th District today! 🇺🇸

In partnership with Congressman Brad Schneider, my staff had the honor of attending the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois’ Naturalization Ceremony at the Chicago Botanic Garden, celebrating our newest American citizens as they begin this exciting new chapter.

The Great Seal of the United States carries the Latin phrase "E pluribus unum," which means “Out of many, one.” It’s a powerful reminder that our diversity has always been one of our greatest strengths as a nation.

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming our 48 newest fellow Americans!

Chag Sukkot Sameach to all who celebrate!

One of my favorite traditions of Sukkot is building the sukkah with my family. It’s a chance for us to spend time together, appreciate the beauty of nature around us, and welcome the beginning of fall.

Sukkot is a meaningful reminder to pause, reflect, and be grateful for the people, community, and blessings in our lives.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful, peaceful, and meaningful Sukkot!

This EO from Governor JB Pritzker is exactly the seriousness and urgency with which Illinois needs to move with regards to AI Safety.

An Illinois AI Cabinet could not come at a better time.
