Suffern Central welcomed math education leader Greg Tang last week, for a full day of hands-on learning, classroom demonstrations, and professional collaboration across our elementary schools!

Through interactive lessons, Greg showed students how to build number sense, break numbers apart, visualize word problems, and explore multiplication and division in new ways. His visual, active approach helps students move beyond memorization to develop deeper understanding, flexible thinking, and confidence in math.

Our elementary math teachers, coaches, principals, and district leaders observed classroom lessons, shared ideas about effective instruction, and wrapped up the day with a district-wide keynote for all K-5 teachers.

Why does this matter for our students? When children understand why math works, not just how to get the answer, they build the confidence and problem-solving skills to tackle new challenges, both in and beyond the classroom.

We’re continuing to invest in the teaching practices that help every Mountie grow as a confident, curious learner!

Here is a look at what our amazing little learners are discovering:
🎨 Dot Painting & Playdough: Fine-tuning hand strength, coordination, and creative expression.
🏗️ Blocks & Building Toys: Diving into early math and engineering by stacking, balancing, and sorting.
🚂 Trains: Navigating problem-solving and spatial awareness as they connect tracks and guide their journeys.
🏡 Kitchen & Dollhouse: Exploring the world around them through dramatic play, communication, and empathy.
✏️Letters & Numbers: Planting academic seeds by practicing tracing, identifying shapes, and counting through fun games.
Swipe through to see our brilliant Pre-K students in action!

Every voice has a story, and today, our classrooms were full of them!
📝✨

For , our English department launched a special initiative to celebrate all forms of writing and honor our students’ unique voices. In English classes across every grade level, students reflected on what writing means to them, why they write, and how their words shape their world.

Their thoughts and reflections are now proudly displayed along our hallways for everyone to read and be inspired by. Take a walk through the halls this week to see what moves, motivates, and inspires our high school writers!

🚀 Hands-on Innovation in Action! 🛠️

Our 7th grade Discovering Digital Technology students are putting the engineering design process to the test! Partnering with our Project-Based Learning (PBL) Coach, Mr. Wojehowski, students are taking hands-on learning to the next level using modular Infento kits to build real, life-size rides from the ground up.

Building with these life-size construction sets isn’t just about turning bolts—it’s about:

Teamwork & Collaboration: Communicating, delegating roles, and solving real-time assembly challenges together.

The Engineering Process: Testing designs, analyzing mechanics, and iterating to turn raw components into functional builds.

STEM Skills in Motion: Bridging digital concepts with physical, real-world application.

We can’t wait to see these student-designed creations roll into action!
