Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, excluding skin cancers, affecting 1 in 8 women (approximately 13%) in their lifetime.

On average, a woman is diagnosed every 2 minutes in the United States.

Recognizing warning signs and understanding protective measures are vital steps toward early detection and risk reduction.

Early detection is the best defense against advanced disease; approximately 66% of cases caught early at a localized stage are highly treatable.

The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program is funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
