Today, LifeStar2 pauses to remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, healthcare professionals, service members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
For those of us in emergency services, September 11 is a reminder of what it truly means to serve to run toward those who need help, even when the danger is unknown.
We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS professionals, and countless others who made the ultimate sacrifice. We also remember those who continued to suffer from illnesses and injuries related to their service at Ground Zero in the years that followed.
But today, we also want to recognize and thank the thousands of men and women who heard a calling after September 11th.
Those who raised their right hand and joined our Armed Forces. Those who became firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, nurses, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and other public servants because they witnessed the courage and sacrifice of that day and decided they wanted to serve something greater than themselves.
Some deployed overseas. Some came home and continued serving their communities. Others are still answering the call today.
Twenty-five years later, we have not forgotten those we lost, those who answered the call that morning, or those who found their calling because of it.
To every person who chose a life of service in the days, months, and years following September 11th thank you.
We remember. We honor. We continue to serve.
Never Forget.
