What an honor to be part of the Hoboken Memorial Day Parade today!
Hoboken Public Library rolled through the streets of our city with a float celebrating 250 years of America -- and paying special tribute to Martha Bayard Stevens, the remarkable woman who founded the Hoboken Public Library in 1890. Her vision, dedication, and love for this community is why we exist today, and we are so proud to carry her legacy forward.
Thank you to everyone who lined the streets and cheered us on, to our incredible staff and volunteers who showed up with so much heart, and to Hoboken Historical Museum and the city of Hoboken for putting on a parade worthy of the occasion.
We honor and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country. π€

Today at Hoboken Public Library, Jersey City beekeeper Roger Moss brought a live observation hive into our Story Time Room -- and the room was absolutely buzzing. π
Through enlarged photos and a hands-on look at real honeybees at work, kids and families learned how bees communicate, gather food, raise their young, store honey for winter, and why protecting bee populations matters so deeply to the food we all depend on.
Watching young people lean in to get a closer look at a live hive and walk away genuinely curious about the natural world -- that is exactly what Creative Corner is all about.
Stay tuned to our calendar at hobokenlibrary.org for more Creative Corner programs all summer long!

The Isle (2018) on Kanopy: Isolated Folk Horror
The folk horror of The Isle is eerily cold and disorienting, yet with an intriguing Celtic flair. The story has been seen before, so for me it was more about how the world was built and how it contributed to the horror. The Scottish island, set in 1846, did the trick with its fog constantly seeping in and its unsettling cliffs sprouting just far enough apart to create the illusion that there was nowhere to hide....

Spectacular Speculative Fiction: And Side by Side They Wander and Strange Familiars
And Side By Side They Wanderby Molly TanzerI loved And Side by Side They Wander, the new novella by Molly Tanzer. The story is a unique science fiction twist on the Orpheus myth. Set in a future where aliens have traded technological advancements for much of earth's great art, a motley group tries to steal some of it back from the distant museum where it has been locked away....
