Happy Halloween from LaRue County Schools!

Mr. Coy put his Halloween costume in the hands of his students, challenging them to design and draw what they thought he should wear 🎃

We love seeing our teachers find creative ways to bring fun into the classroom.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween!

The petition committee filed a lawsuit against the LaRue County Board of Education and LaRue County Clerk Rhonda Metcalf. The lawsuit followed Metcalf’s determination that the committee’s petition challenging the Board’s 2025 increase in the real and personal property tax rate was insufficient.

The Judge ruled in favor of the petitioners, finding that the petition contained enough valid signatures to require an election. However, the ruling also documented significant irregularities in the petition process:

- The court found that “some signatures do not belong to the person listed on the petition.” It also described multiple signatures as “highly suspicious,” while stating that there was insufficient evidence to determine whether those signatures were authorized or forged.

- The court found that some signatures were obtained while a placard covered the actual heading and language at the top of the petition. The placard’s message differed from the petition’s language, and two pages containing the placard’s heading were found not to be substantially uniform. The Judge rejected those pages and the signatures appearing on them.

- The three petition committee members gave inconsistent testimony about executing their organizing affidavit. They could not consistently identify who was present, where it was signed or whether an oath was administered. The court nevertheless declined to invalidate the affidavit because it appeared legally sufficient on its face.

The Board offers the following statement in response:

The LaRue County Board of Education respects the judicial process, although we are disappointed by the court’s ruling in this matter.

The Board’s actions were taken in good faith, based on the guidance available at the time and with the goal of protecting the financial interests of LaRue County Schools. Those decisions reflected the Board’s commitment to practicing fiscal responsibility, supporting district employees, and providing students with the educational opportunities they deserve.

The Board and its legal counsel will carefully review the court’s complete ruling before determining what options, if any, should be considered. It would be premature to announce any next steps until that review is complete.

Regardless of this outcome, the daily work of LaRue County Schools will continue. The Board remains committed to serving students, being accountable to the community and managing public resources responsibly.

Learning looks brighter during Color Days at Preschool on College Street!

Students, teachers and staff dressed in designated colors throughout the initiative, turning an important preschool skill into a schoolwide celebration. The colorful tradition helps young learners practice identifying colors, feel connected to their school community and discover that education can—and should—be fun.

By creating joyful learning experiences early, Preschool on College Street is helping children build a strong foundation for their next steps in school and encouraging them to become lifelong learners.

LaRue County Schools is proud to share highlights from the 2026 state accountability report released today. Every school earned an overall rating of Yellow (Medium), and none were identified for federal improvement designations such as CSI, TSI, or ATSI.

“We’re encouraged by our elementary growth and strong high school readiness results,” said Superintendent Adryanne Warren. “These results help us build on our strengths and focus our work where students need additional support.”

Both elementary schools improved their overall scores and exceeded the statewide elementary score. LaRue County High School earned Blue (Very High) ratings in postsecondary readiness and graduation rate, while LaRue County Middle School outperformed the state in social studies and writing.

Board Chair Joanna Hinton emphasized continued improvement. “We’re proud of the work happening in our schools. These results help guide our priorities as we build on our strengths and ensure every student has the support and opportunities to succeed.”

Thank you to our students, staff, and families for the continued dedication that drives progress across LaRue County Schools.

An unexpected expense can change an entire budget—a lesson approximately 125 LaRue County Middle School students experienced firsthand through a life-sized financial wellness game presented by Abound Credit Union.

Career Labs students in grades six through eight applied lessons about needs versus wants, interest, budgeting and planning for the unexpected. The hands-on activity helped turn financial concepts into practical decisions students may face as adults.

Partnerships like this connect classroom learning with the real world and help prepare students for life beyond school.
