In honor of America’s 250th birthday, Historian and Singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo will perform The Power of Song in Democracy, featuring music from the entire length and breadth of our nation's history. This performance will take place at Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Rd., tonight, Thursday, Oct. 15 starting at 7 p.m.
His performance demonstrates the power of song to mold and empower political, social and moral issues of the day. From the days of the revolution, right on up to these modern times, music has been used to spread the ideas of democracy and shape the movements and issues of the day. Chris will perform a selection of the best songs and share the details and stories of their place in history.
An award-winning singer/songwriter and roots musician who has twice served as the Illinois State Scholar for the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibit on roots music, Chris Vallillo brings to life the people and places of “unmetropolitan” America in song.
Performing on six string and bottleneck slide guitars, Vallillo weaves original, contemporary, and traditional songs and narratives into a compelling and entertaining portraits of the Midwest.
