Wonderful Update !!!! Ms. Elizabeth has been found safe. She is coherent. She is being transported to a medical facility for evaluation. Another posting to come later with further info including recognizing the agencies that assisted. But for now, we want to thank the enormous amount of help and support we have received the last three days in this massive effort. It has been impressive! We also want to thank everyone who had Ms. Elizabeth and the search parties in their prayers. We are so thankful for today's outcome.

Update!! FOUND !!!!!

Please be on the lookout!! Missing 85 year old. Mary Elizabeth Dickerson. Last seen wearing shirt similar to shirt in photo below and jeans. It is believed she left her 300 block Upper Trace Creek Road residence on foot. Unknown direction of travel or destination. She may be very confused. She may show signs of dementia. If located or If you have info on her whereabouts, please call dispatch at 931-796-3616. See additional info in second photo.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office free firewood program opens back up tomorrow, October 1st, 2026. The program is intended for Lewis County seniors or any other Lewis County Citizen that is physically or financially unable to obtain wood for heat.

Applications may be picked up at the Lewis County Sheriff's Office at 437 Swan Avenue, Hohenwald, TN, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Firewood may be picked up on Thursdays or Fridays between 12:00 noon to 4:00pm.

This year, fully qualified applicants are eligible to receive 7 ranks of firewood. If we have a surplus, applicants will be allowed to obtain additional ranks of firewood.

An increased number of folks have recently reported receiving similar phone calls. Sheriff Tiller would like to remind everyone that a legitimate law enforcement authority does not call you to tell you that you have an outstanding warrant or that you have missed jury duty and then suggest or offer to resolve the matter over the phone or by sending any money. Please do not engage with these scammers and please do not send money. Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone.

WARNING! It has came to the attention of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office that individuals in this county and individuals in other parts of this state have recently been receiving concerning calls. It is reported that there caller i.d. is showing our name and our number. Obviously the culprits are spoofing our phone number. The reports indicate they are being threatened to be arrested if they don't cooperate, that there are warrants for them, that they have unpaid tickets and so on. They are instructed to send money to resolve the issue. THIS IS A SCAM. WE DO NOT EVER CALL DEMANDING MONEY OR GIFT CARDS OR ANYTHING LIKE THIS TO RESOLVE A LEGAL MATTER! The folks doing this are most likely not even in this country. Please do not fall for this scam. Feel free to call us directly at 931-795-5096 with any other concerns or questions.

Some Info on the latest scam being reported to us today. A Lewis County citizen provided these images and this info. As you can see the scammers are making good attempts at trying to make these documents look official. The scammers are also providing a QR code that they are requesting potential victims to use to send money. We wanted to share to make everyone aware of these types of ongoing scams. Do not send gift cards, do not wire money, & when the scammers threaten you with a criminal arrest warrant against you just remember, law enforcement agencies and/or courts do not call you and tell you that there is a warrant for your arrest unless you send the money. One final note, after this person hung up on the scammer, a second scam caller called this person saying they have their address and threatened violence to them unless they sent money and the scammer demanded an amount that was less than the amount shown in the original document. As usual, these numbers shows up on your caller i.d. as private or unknown but sometimes the scammers can spoof another phone number or maybe even the sheriff's office phone number and make it appear as if the call is coming from a legitimate number. Please do not become a victim of these scammers.
