WHERE ARE YOU CHARGING?

As we continue Fire Prevention Week, today’s reminder is simple: where you charge your devices matters.

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day. When charging phones, tablets, laptops, e-bikes, tools, and other rechargeable devices:

Charge devices on a hard, stable surface — not on a bed, couch, or under a pillow.

Use the manufacturer-approved charging equipment whenever possible.

Keep charging devices away from exits and escape routes.

Stop using a battery if you notice swelling, unusual heat, leaking, odor, or a change in shape or color.

Avoid charging devices unattended or overnight whenever possible.

The department has been awarded $58,560 through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program – Operations & Safety. The grant funds will be used to replace our aging wildland/brush firefighting gear.

Wildland firefighting presents unique hazards to our members, and having properly maintained, modern protective equipment is essential to keeping our firefighters safe while operating in these challenging environments.

This funding will allow the department to provide our members with new wildland/brush protective gear, ensuring they have the equipment necessary to safely respond to brush and wildland fires in our community.

We are very grateful to FEMA and the federal government for making this funding opportunity available. This grant allows us to make an important investment in firefighter safety that would have been difficult to accomplish using local funding alone.

Thank you to everyone who supports the Holden Fire Department and our commitment to keeping our firefighters and community safe. 🔥🚒

A prepared community is a stronger community.

Look for ways to get involved — volunteer, support local preparedness efforts, and check on neighbors, especially older adults or those who may need extra assistance. Someone you know may need help gathering supplies, making an emergency plan, or preparing their home. MEMA specifically encourages residents to help friends, family members, and neighbors prepare.
