AI Surveillance pricing!
We stopped this.

Inside Look at How Retailers Use Your Data for ‘Price Experiments’ Watch this Today Show video.

In the current world of AI, companies are collecting your information, income level, assets, etc. and using that information to change the prices they charge you to buy items in stores to whatever they believe you are willing to pay.

I voted to ban this price gouging practice, and it is now illegal in Michigan to do surveillance pricing.

Across retail, travel, food and more, some companies are charging consumers different prices for the same products and services. Lindsay Owens, author of the new book “Gouged: The End of a Fair Price and What That Menas for Your Wallet,” says companies overcharge by using “price experiments”...

This ceremonial bill signing photo took place this week. The teaching of The Science of Reading (phonics) is now law.

We worked hard to listen, connect meaningfully with both parties, The Department of Education and the teachers union, and took action to help the students of Michigan, their families, and our collective future. I strongly believe in being a bipartisan legislator. This type of bipartisan government is what the Greater Holland area wants from their Representatives.

Many are saying this was the most important piece of legislation passed this session. We are 44th in the nation in Reading scores, and each year our scores decrease.

Why? A few decades ago we moved away from teaching phonics and adopted the Whole Language method from OSU. Scores gradually declined and we went from close to the top to 44th in the nation in our reading testing scores.

As a former English teacher and Chair of Education, I worked across party lines and with the union to get this done for the students in our state. This change in teaching method, like the Mississippi Miracle, is the beginning of the Michigan Miracle!

I have worked tirelessly in Lansing as one of the most bipartisan legislators in the Capitol. I believe the best results come when we put politics aside, work together, and get things done for Michigan families.

📚 Improving Literacy
My literacy bill, HB 5697, passed the House 104–2 and was signed by the Governor in July. This is a game changer that will help improve student literacy across our entire state.

🛠️ Expanding Trades & Apprenticeships
My Innovative Districts in Education bills, HB 5983–5984, passed the House unanimously, creating more opportunities to bring trades and apprenticeships into our high schools.

❤️ Making Life-Saving Allergy Treatment Easier
My epinephrine package, HB 5049–5054, also passed the House unanimously. It would allow newly FDA-approved epinephrine nasal sprays to be used for severe allergic reactions—providing another potentially life-saving option for people who currently carry EpiPens.

Bipartisanship isn’t just something I talk about. It’s how I work.
