This afternoon, the York County Emergency Management Agency Technical Large Animal Rescue (TLAR) Team responded to its first official call for help. A curious thoroughbred named Archie made his way up into the hay loft of his barn and couldn't be persuaded back down the stairs. Archie was sedated, secured to our Rescue Glide, and safely lowered to the ground on a front-end loader. We'd like to extend many thanks to the TLAR members who answered the call, as well as Martha and her crew from Conaree Equine and Heart & Hand Landscape & Excavation for providing the machinery needed. Archie is back in his stall and resting well.

Lithium batteries do not belong in the garbage or recycling!!
Someone put a Lithium battery pack like the one shown in these pictures, used for jump starting vehicles, in their household recycling. When compacted in the truck, the pack burst and caught fire. Luckily the truck was close to the Plains Rd station and was able to stop and eject its recycling so we could extinguish the fire. Due to the quick thinking of the sanitation truck staff, the fire remained small and no damage was done to the truck. The truck and crew were back on the job in about an hour.

Plummer’s Hardware in Buxton will take your used/dead/unwanted Lithium batteries for proper recycling. Please do not throw them in your household garbage or recycling!
