IMPORTANT: Florida Property Tax Proposal Headed to November Ballot📢

The Florida Legislature has approved a property tax proposal that will appear on the November ballot for voters to consider.

As Floridians begin learning about the proposal, it's important to understand what property taxes help fund in local communities:

🏖️ Beach Maintenance and Improvements
🚧 Roads, Sidewalks, and Infrastructure
🌳 Parks, Recreation Programs, and Community Amenities
💡 Neighborhood Improvements and Public Facilities
🚨Other Essential Services

Property taxes provide a stable source of local funding that helps cities plan for and maintain these services year after year. While the proposal would not affect school district funding, local governments across Florida are evaluating how changes to property tax revenues could impact community services and future projects.

The discussion surrounding this proposal is ultimately about how communities fund the services residents rely on every day and how those services may be funded in the future.

We encourage residents to stay informed, review information from trusted news sources, and learn how the proposal could affect their community before casting their vote.

Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a Legislature Special Session on Property Taxes set to begin on Monday.

Why should you care? This discussion will impact you….

Senate Joint Resolution 2-F and Senate Bill 4-F provides for the increase of the homestead exemption from the current $50,000 structure to $150,000 that would begin January 1, 2027, and to $250,000 beginning January 1, 2028. The increased homestead exemption applies to county, municipal, school district, and special district levies.

For Hollywood, the estimated $15 million dollar loss in FY2028 and $28.4 million loss in FY2029 will mean the reduction or elimination of services. Impacts would include public works, parks and recreation, code enforcement and many other city services, as well as future investment in public safety.

These funds pay for the things that make Hollywood great, like programming at our community centers, streetlight and sidewalk maintenance, and beach maintenance.

This issue is important for all Floridians to watch as this issue will appear on the November ballot for you to decide. Stay tuned to a trusted news provider so you understand how this will impact you and your family. You can also reach out to your senators and representatives to let them know how you feel:
