The Chris Hixon Memorial 5K takes place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, and you can participate in person at Hollywood Beach, or virtually.

This annual 5K honors Chris Hixon, a 27-year Navy veteran who served on both active duty and in the reserves and was deployed at sea during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. A little over four years after he retired from the Naval Reserve, he was killed during the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL on February 14th, 2018. He was the first person to respond to the sound of gunshots. Proceeds support the Chris Hixon Foundation Scholarship Fund, benefiting graduating student-athletes across Broward County.

While I don't think we have coyotes in Lawn Acres, they have been seen in Hollywood Hills. Keep your eyes open.

Heads up! 🐺⚠️

Coyotes live in urban, suburban and rural areas throughout Florida, and have been spotted recently near our Town. It's important to practice wildlife safety to avoid conflict with these animals including:

1. Never feed coyotes, as they will lose their fear of humans.
2. Secure garbage cans and clean up pet food and fallen fruit.
3. Protect livestock in predator-resistant enclosures.
4. Keep your pets in enclosed areas and walk dogs on a short leash.
5. If a coyote approaches too closely, immediately act aggressive toward the coyote by waving your arms, making loud sounds and throwing stones.
