Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a Legislature Special Session on Property Taxes set to begin on Monday.

Why should you care? This discussion will impact you….

Senate Joint Resolution 2-F and Senate Bill 4-F provides for the increase of the homestead exemption from the current $50,000 structure to $150,000 that would begin January 1, 2027, and to $250,000 beginning January 1, 2028. The increased homestead exemption applies to county, municipal, school district, and special district levies.

For Hollywood, the estimated $15 million dollar loss in FY2028 and $28.4 million loss in FY2029 will mean the reduction or elimination of services. Impacts would include public works, parks and recreation, code enforcement and many other city services, as well as future investment in public safety.

These funds pay for the things that make Hollywood great, like programming at our community centers, streetlight and sidewalk maintenance, and beach maintenance.

This issue is important for all Floridians to watch as this issue will appear on the November ballot for you to decide. Stay tuned to a trusted news provider so you understand how this will impact you and your family. You can also reach out to your senators and representatives to let them know how you feel:

Alert:

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued Due to Water Main Repair

Crews are on scene to repair a leak in a water main line on A1A south of Hollywood Boulevard. Several businesses, condominiums and residential homes in the area of Iris Terrace south to Hallandale Beach Boulevard are experiencing low or no water pressure. Water service will be interrupted to customers in this area.

As a result of the repair, a precautionary boil water advisory has been issued. Customers in the impacted area are advised to boil their water for consumption until further notice. Residents and visitors should not consume water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil and let it continue boiling for one minute. Only boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, making coffee, washing dishes, and food preparation.
