Hi Ward 6 ! checking in from my lunch break to let you know that tonight’s School Committee meeting begins at 6 p.m.
A few items for your awareness: the agenda includes an analysis from our superintendent on student attendance patterns, along with financial matters affecting our current budget. Those include a proposed $306,720 budget decrease reflecting updated state figures for charter reimbursement and transportation. The financial items are recommended for referral to the Finance and Operations Subcommittee for review.
This follows my September 15 recap, where I noted potential budget impacts tied to lower enrollment and the state’s funding formula.
The bigger picture is that we are working within a flat-funded budget while student needs continue. That requires us to look at the whole not just individual programs or line items and be thoughtful about where we shift resources, strengthen support, grow what’s needed, and sustain what’s working. The public is also invited to our subcommittee meetings where you can hear deeper discussion on these matters. I encourage you to attend if you can.
Governance requires all of us to be responsible financial stewards of the district overall. That means acknowledging difficult decisions, making choices transparently, understanding the tradeoffs, and keeping students at the center of both what we change and what we protect.

The Enlace de Familias Trunk or Treat was a wonderful event for families and friends👻 Thank you!🧙‍♀️
